Kraken Black Spiced Rum was first introduced by Proximo Spirits in 2010 . The dark rum is infused with 11 “secret” spices, caramel and other natural flavors.
The rum gets its name after the mythical sea creature 'The Kraken'. As legend has it, this terrifying creature attacked ships at sea during the 18th and 19th centuries - possibly for all the rum on board.
Nice mellow flavour for a spice rum. Not overpowering despite 47%. I find it gets kind of lost in cola whereas Sailor Jerry sticks out more to me so I prefer SJ in my mixes. All in all a good rum but not really sipper.
Dark colored, bold taste with a kick.
This is my favorite rum so far. Mixes well with coke.
You can actually taste and smell vanilla, cinnamon, hint of chocolate, and a few other spices I can't seem to pinpoint.
Good straight sipper, shots, or mixer!
So this stuff is not the best sipper in the world. It's spice profile is pretty rich and it puts a little too much zing on your palate.
What it is great for is mixing. Mix it with Cola, pineapple juice, ginger beer, chocolate milk.........cake batter. Really it's a great bottle to keep in your cabinet for those occasions that would be a waste of high end stuff.
I'm guessing that they start with cheap, bulk rum and then add Worcestershire sauce or something, plus a ton of hair dye for color. This is not a delicious product. Their marketing department should get the credit for this rum's success, but it could just as easily be vodka.
The Kraken has a really nice mild scent, although its dark brown/red hue isn't overly inviting. This rum has a well balanced spiced flavour.. maybe even some licorice notes in there... Mixes great with cola and also makes a fine Dark and Stormy. Very smooth - You wouldn't know (from the taste) that it's 47% alcohol!
This is one of my favorites. Keeps me warm on snowy nights and makes for great company during the holidays.
A sweet rum with a thin syrupy viscosity but there's some spice in it I just don't like. I don't understand all the high marks it gets here. Oh well...to each his own. There are simply much better spiced rums available. Bayou and Siesta Key are two that come to mind immediate. Both put Crapen...pardon me...Kraken to shame.
This one is really great for parties, as it is a good value and festive flavor. The spice is apparent, yet not so loud as Sailor Jerry, which makes this one fun for shots or mixing in with the jungle juice (if you really hate your body). Kraken was the first rum I ever tried, and it always brings me memories of crazy gatherings with friends. The rum itself isn't too impressive: fairly average, which is why I'm rating this as a 6, but like I said, it's my top pick for parties.
Forget the hype, the cool looking bottle just try it, love it and move on. Puts a smile on my face when deciding what to drink, and never disappointed. Great with a coke but fine by itself.
View: Pours golden brown.
Nose: Vanilla and caramel come through the most on the initial nosing. Multiple sniffs really hones in on the vanilla aspect of this rum.
Initial Tasting: Vanilla exceptionally noticeable up front.
Body: Vanilla lingers; smooth with a consistent flavor
Fade: Finishes with caramel and lingering notes of vanilla
Overall: Enjoyable to sip but works exceptionally well with ginger beer. Nicely crafted spirit. Value is exceptional for the quality and it packs a punch.
Sicuramente molto particolare. Non ho avvertito tutte le spezie che dicono di averci messo dentro ma mi ha comunque soddisfatto il generale bilanciamento alcolico. Promosso.
There is a certain standard that rum needs to meet before becoming a true sipping rum and this isn't it. Don't know how it would taste mixed as I just drink rum straight but I guess this would do for that
Épicé et parfumé, de la vanille evidemment, du caramel aussi, gourmand, doux et festif. Facile et amusant à boire, devinez ce qu'il y a dedans !!!
For a 94 proof, it's ok, but, the alcohol content overpowers a run that has so much potential! For a black rum, the flavors are a little on the light side, for my pallette. If your looking for an -almost- tier 1 rum to add to your arsenal for a decent Cuba Libre, Dark & Stormy, and the like, you won't be disappointed... however, this is no Kirk & Sweeney or Angostura 12year... but you can't beat the price point for a slightly above average black rum
Nice rum. It mixes well with cola. Straight up is also nice because it has enough taste. Not higher than a 7 because I don't prefer Spiced rums in general. Around 25 euros
