Havana Club Selección de Maestros

Last February (2016) we enjoyed our 3rd trip to Cuba, visiting a different area this time (Santa Maria/ Ensenachos). Havana club is a great mixing rum bar none. Seeking to find a higher quality sipper, most kept pushing me toward the Santiago de Cuba. I did try (and buy) but found it paled in comparison.
the HC Seleccion is one of the best examples of Cuban rum, at an outstanding price point. I did return home with a bottle in the sleeve (tip: best price was at the airport store), along with a S de C 12yr. I should have brought 2, as I'm now badgering friends who are travelling to Cuba to bring me another.
Easy to sip a few, perhaps not as smooth as others in the next price category, but none the less its' still an enjoyable spirit. Medium body with mild tobacco leaf and herbal notes, a little dark chocolate and hints of molasses.

Tastes too much from isopropyl alcohol and it is bitter.
Sweetnes is okay though.

Is a true next step from a 7 years Havana Club. The complexity felt in the palate, along with the smoothness makes this rum a great choice within the somewhat limited variety of rums you can find in Havana. The price difference between this and 7yrsHC is totally proportional. The package could definitely improve.

Very well balanced and smooth Cuban Rum - its strong (45 %) but not to strong - I use it both as a sipper and a mixer, and it is perfect for both.

Nose: prunes, citrus and a hint of tobacco
Pallet: oak, citrus, hints of licorice and fruity sweetnes, followed by a long burn with a pale bitterness like dark chocolate and coffee.

Love it! Perfect with a cuban cigar.

Ron cubano con buen sabor y aroma, color intermedio. Para ingerir con algún hielo. Muy buena opción para compartir con amigos.

Hoped for more, but cuban rum is just not sweet enough for my tast

This rum has a nice warm scent of caramel.
Despite its 45% the rum is very mild with nuts flavour. Then the alcohol vapors kicks in and rewards you with a long after burn.
Not the best rum, but absolute a nice acquaintance.
