I am a huge fan of Havana Club 7 as a go to after work rum that plays well with ice, lime wedge and a dash of coke for color.

I am no expert - just know what I like. This Seleccion has a nice punch of alcohol with dry palate and hints of wood and citrus. I had a few straight with just a couple of ice cubes and squeeze of lime and then tried with coke. Definitely Italy better straight. Coke sweetens it up a bit too much and knocks down some of the flavors.

Try it you won't have any regrats. Not even one single letter.....

I picked up my first bottle of Maestros in Madrid airport on the way to business trip in Valencia. Having tried the white, Anejo, 7 year, and 15 prior I opted for something different. This rum separates the boys from the men having higher proof. I loved this rum, it was perfect for after work each evening with an ice cube or two, great with a cigar and as a nightcap. Good color strong scent and unique full bodied flavor. In reality it’s a strong 7. Have had it several time since and will buy it again.

a nice rum, but i find it a bit sharp also. And that sharpness lasts a while.

Nice strong rum. Good alcohol bite and very smooth. Has a nice smoky flavor. Not at all sweet. Heavy oak with faint coffee notes. Nice finish too. Not very complex. A little thin. But a very solid rum. Very enjoyable. 7.5 easy.

I find this to be one amongst the best choices between the multi-column distilled, industrial, spanish style of rums. With an honest addition of ~7 g/l sugar, Selección de Maestros is a drier counterpart for most adulterated, commercial latino ones.
Rich, light mahogany colour in glass. You should let it breath a bit to disclose the vanilla-oaky-chestnut flavour, with hints of tobacco. 45% abv is quite an high range for these kind of rums, but despise this premises, it runs smooth down your throat. Sometimes you can catch a little alcohol-spikey sharp corpus, but that's not even close to the disturbing notes present in most of minus aged, more commercial juices.
It kicks a lot, nice afterburn and decent in duration. With some friends, we ended this in just a night... and they were all female but me (;
Top choice at around 40€ range for spanish terroirs. Highly recommended if you want to taste a glimpse of funk in Cuba!

Cant believe the 7.5 rating. This rum is damn good without being cloyingly sweet as some of the top rated rums on this site. Sip it neat. I'll be getting more when I go back to the Caribbean.

Rhum plus alcoolisé, se déguste bien avec ou sans glace.

Gylden. Duft af sødme og fad. Kan nydes alene. Fin til prisen.

Havana Club Selección de Maestros is not a bad rum it's just a tasteless one. Very smooth and mild. The taste is not that sweet, which I prefer. At 45%volume I can hardly even notice the alcohol. Over all there is not a bad word I could say about this rum, however I expected to find something else than just a good but tasteless sipper. At this price range there are better options, but I still might come back to this from time to time.

A true representation of fine cuban rum. Recommend neat or as an old fashioned.

As far as I understand, the right way to drink this rum is as follows: first, let it breathe for 10-15 minutes, second, add a little water to reduce alcohol percentage to 38-40%, it will make taste and aroma reveal themselves and make this rum significally smoother. Generally speaking, it's more harsh than sweet. Aroma is rich and strong - plum and cherry are present as well as tobacco and leather. Aroma is complicated and it takes time to fully sense it. Taste becomes mild and exposes itself after adding some water. Wood and tobacco notes, some citrus, burnt sugar and chocolate in the background. Aftertaste is iteresting: oak, vanilla and diminishing fruit notes stay after the disappearing of spirit harshness (unfortunately, it's still present even after adding water) and are smoothly replaced by saulty chocolate.

Without water - spirit harshness burns everything out.

The colour is beautiful: noble mahogany, but sadly it's lost after adding water. You have to make this sacrifice tho.

It's not an everyday rum and it's not a party rum, this rum is for a quiet private rest in complience with all it's drinking rules.
A nice rum afterall, but overpriced.

Quite okay from all their artillery, price could be lower.

I know it's hard to find in the United States and the price in europe can be high. I do recommend to get it in Cuba where it can cost 40 dollars. The only Havana Club with 45% alcohol and one of the smoothest rum ever. Well balanced, perfect for special moments.

Probably my favorite of the Cuban rums as it has a decent bite to it with the standard Spansih/Cuban style flavoring of light caramel.

This is what we call Havana Rum. Really the best price for the best product. That is absolutely the best rum for that price, or even it is better then half of much more expensive rum. If you are looking for good melasa rum just try this one. Tase great, really sweet tabac and fresh fruity smell. Tase absolutely great, it builds 3 main directions: sweetness, tabaco/oak, and fruits. Finish is really long and fruity. You can't fell great power of 45% vol. in smell and taste. This power holds all taste very well. It is really good With one big ice block, but first taste it without nothing. I do highly recommend this ron de habana!

This is the first rum from Havana Club i have tried and i found it to be a pretty decent rum but not all that memorable. It does have a nice flavour but also has a bit of bite so it's not the smoothest rum about. Definitely worth trying though. Great presentation.

Purchased two bottles of this rum during a recent trip to Cuba. I had been waitnng for a while to sample this rum and the wait was well worth it. This rum is simply delicious. Not the driest rum I’ve had but definitely not sweet. This is the best Cuban rum I’ve had so far. The woody taste is different from any other rum I’ve had and each sip lingers for a long time. I wouldn’t rate this a “10” but it certainly deserves a strong “9”.

Un sabor distinto al que estoy acostumbrado pero muy bueno, gran retrogusto, para degustar refrescado y experimentando y descubriendo los sabores de esta creación.
