Havana Club Añejo Especial is a blend of rums aged for up to five years produced from the fermented molasses of sugar cane harvested in Cuba. The molasses is combined with yeast and water, distilled using column stills, and aged in white oak barrels.
Havana Club was founded in 1878 by Jose Arechabala and later nationalized after the Cuban Revolution in 1959.

Awesome versatile rum for unbeatable price tag. You can step up your Mojitos and Cuba libres with it or use it to train yourself for drinking rums neat. Rich rum taste, oaky but still with distinctive fruity sweetness. It's like Havana tried to do Spiced rum, with less annoying spicy taste and completely without spicing process (which covers up actual rum flavours).
I enjoyed countless bottles of this one in my life. Very fair price for what you get!
Always a great rum night with my favourite "bang for bucks" rum. Every drink improves an already exceptional Cuban flavour. In my opinion better than the more expensive 7 year old
Smooth but with a twang. A really nice drink with a great flavour.
In my opinion best quality:price ratio. The price is very pleasant, nevertheless the rum is surprisingly good. Suitable for drinking straight or in a drink. A bit drier taste. Very well deserved 80%.

For most rum lovers, Havana Club Anejo Especial is a good rum for cocktails. But not for sipping. Perhaps this is true, but for my taste this rum is quite good for drinking neat. Especially for its affordable price. This is a matured in white oak barrels rum, which has its own character. Aroma of dried fruits, some vanilla and chocolate. Freshly opened rum had a fine taste of raisins and apricots. After the bottle was exhausted, the wonderful aftertaste was gone, but the rum retained the sweetish flavor of dried fruits, cocoa and a little spice. The first time in my memory a just open bottle of alcohol I like more than injected with oxygen. In general, I recommend. Good, quality, inexpensive rum.
Carries a deep cocoa, chocolate, almost coffee flavour.
A simple yet tasty rum for a simple drink. Highly recommend
In the world are better rums by half prized... never drink it again
If you really wanna mix coke and dark rum.. try this one. But it doesn't need to be mixed, great taste...
A bit harsh straight up, but i love it when it's mixed. My go to drink when the barr has no real good rum to offer. Especially with fanta it's amazing. The orange really enhances the rum
Not a favorite on ice or straight but the perfect rum for Cuba Libre.
Havana Club is, for good and bad, one of the most known brands of rum in the world. I haven´t tried much of their rums, but had a chance to try the Anejo Especial, which I, of course, didn´t say no to.
Nose: Vanilla, butterscotch, ginger and orange
Taste: Vanilla, pineapple, caramel, toast and some mild spice to round it of.
Overall: This is a pretty ordinary rum, that is taken down a notch by a very sweet taste, that is dominated by vanilla. This is a fine rum for a (sweet) Cuba Libre, but I would not recommend drinking it neat because of the overwhelming sweetness.
I favourise this one compared to the Common 3yo Havanna Club because of the smoother taste and sweet note.
Had occasion to enjoy several new (to me) rums during a recent trip to Cuba (some I liked while others just were not my thing). The majority of these rums are meant to be consumed with coke or some other concoction but since I drink my rums “neat” my reviews will be rated might accordingly.
The Havana Club Anejo Especiale (said to be made from rums aged up to 5 years) is similar in taste to the HC Anejo Reserva and once again I found this rum to be better than I had anticipated.
Sugar estimated at 5 GPL. This is a mixing rum. Don't bother to try it as a sipping rum. Vanilla, oak, coffee all coming together with a harsh taste that needs coke or some other mixing agent. It's a cheap bar rum that does the job. It's the younger version of the Havana Club 7. Spend the extra and get the 7.
Grundsolider Rum zum Mixen von Cocktails und Longdrinks.
Not a bad rum wouldn't be my first choice but for the price is reasonable
Drinkable rum if the Havana 7 is sold out in the liquor store
This was my go to mixer rum when I first started my journey into the wide world of rum.
Easy cheap Ron, better for mixing, than drink it alone.
