Havana Club Añejo Especial is a blend of rums aged for up to five years produced from the fermented molasses of sugar cane harvested in Cuba. The molasses is combined with yeast and water, distilled using column stills, and aged in white oak barrels.
Havana Club was founded in 1878 by Jose Arechabala and later nationalized after the Cuban Revolution in 1959.

Its just ethanol-tea-water. This is not great rum but it is drinkable after a few sips. I mean, there is always worse but a 6.0??? No way in heavens.
I always have a weak spot for this rum. It's a nice and easy drink.

Good for mix with that value. If you want some good not special rum for mix I would reccomend that one.
I was hoping for more. It is just fair to ok. Good in a pinch or for a mixer.

I have bought a few of Havana Club Anejo Clasico. It's a very good aged mixer. Quintessential rum, great in mixed drinks.
Made very nice Cuba libres with this one. Also enjoyed it neat. However, I have moved on.
This is probably the minimum quality for sipping. It is good for cocktails but it might be a beginner's rum to decide if sipping rum is your thing.

The benchmark for Cuba Libre in my opinion. Straight I wouldn't recommend it, the alcohol sting is overwhelming, but it's not an unpleasant experience.

Again a rum that I often use in cocktails, some classic and some maniacal creations. If you want a versatile rum then these lower cost Havana's are really 'go to' rums. They are also great learning tools on how subtle differences in flavour profile make a good deal of difference to a cocktail.
