I have held off for months in trying this replacement for their Blanco. However, after reading enough of these reviews which mentioned notes of coconut, the 47% ABV, and it really being a gold rum aged for six years and then filtered to remove the color, I gave it a try at $29 US. I don't detect notes of coconut, but this one can indeed be sipped neat. Not many white rums can make this claim. It would also be a great mixer, allowing for rum flavors to come through without over powering the drink. I also have it rated as a good buy.

Update August 13, 2022: I did a side by side test against two other premium white rums: Selvarey White and Plantation 3 Star, To my surprise, this one easily won! I now doubt if I will ever find a better white rum.

Update October 2, 2022: A new white rum is now my favorite, bumping this Planas down to second place due to a small amount of added sugar. The new favorite white rum is now Yolo Silver by Don Pancho.

We tried this at the NYC Rum Fest, and found it surprisingly smooth for a white rum, so we bought a bottle at Astor Wines. It does have a stronger alcohol nose than others, due to the 47% ABV.

i admit it. i'm a barrel and age snob. i was expecting this to be harsh ethanol mixed with a splash of windex. it turns out to be a 6 year aged gold rum, charcoal filtered to be crystal clear (Which i again ask: "why?"). nose is missing the barrel and betrays this as a younger rum, maybe maybe a hint or raisin? the taste is clean, with some age, a LOT of black pepper, and some heavy syrupy fruit (like maybe mango but not strong... more like a viscosity thing). all in all not bad, would make a pretty fine daiqiuiri i think.

Im new to sipping rums but this was supprisingly pleaseant, a white rum, it was smooth witout a bite and not so much perfume like the bumbu, and no heavy after taste that i noticed. but again im new to sipping rums , ive only ever sipped whiskeys.

Raw sugarcane taste. I like it very much. The best white rum I've ever taste. 47%!
An interesting fact I read about it is that this is filtered rum, that is why it is white.

It's a solid white rum better as a mixer than a sipper but doesn't always work in every drink. Your results may vary.

6jaar gelagerd houtskool gefilterd. 47% zachte geur. Zoetige smaak met een scherpe afdronk die blijft lang hangen.
