Like the title says, this works great in cocktails. The flavors really shine and makes for a great, non-spiced, mixing rum. The taste straight is a strong burn followed by some sweetness and bananas.
It smells worse than it tastes. It will make your mouth tingly, it's fairly dry and at best, only semi-complex but it's decent and actually better than I was expecting. I wouldn't suggest it as a sipper but it probably makes for great cocktail fuel. It might be worth a try...

I don’t like white, plane rums so my rating might not be the best one to guide you in your quest for the best white rum. I cannot think of anything positive about the spirit, only that you might want to mix it with almost everything you can get your hands on. But again, it is just not my flavor.

An adequate white rum and certainly much better than a white bacardi. Has a complexity and sweetness the cheaper white rums lack.
It is barely on the edge of a sipping rum (still sipable, though) as it has a bit of bitter after taste, but it is a much better mixer for a higher-end cocktails...it is far smother than the $15-20 white rums and its flavors will not overpower a cocktail

I do not like Diplomático Planas at all. In fact I’d say it’s bloody horrid! For starters it’s too strong for my liking (47%VOL.) Neat the taste is non-descript, and is incredibly brutal in the finish. It’s like drinking a glass of fire! Things don’t really improve much when mixed with Coca-Cola either. Yes of course it becomes easier to get along with when mixed with coke, but it still tastes rather bland. I’d say Diplomático Planas tastes a little bit like Reserva Exclusiva but nowhere near as good. The only positive I can say about this Planas, is that at least I can use it as a base rum in cocktails that I wish to create. In fact for cocktails this rum will be perfect. Every cloud eh!

Inte en rom jag skulle dricka rent, men funkar nog alldeles utmärkt i en drink.
Custard and White Chocolate mingle alongside some young sweet alcohol.
"It has a nice aged note to it – some peppery spice and a bit of chilli. Finish wise it isn’t huge but it does leave a decent hit of booze and some nice spicy oak notes. Peppery and slightly heated – notes of red chilli."

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

White rum, slightly sweet. I can smell the coffee aroma. Mild taste despite 47 %.
