Gosling's Family Reserve Old rum is crafted in Bermuda from the same blend as Gosling Black Seal but is aged longer in dark barrels. Each bottle is hand-labelled and numbered.
Un goût de chêne, vanille et de caramel. Un peu épicé, poivré mais très doux. Un final très longue et complexe. Un peu cher mais la qualité est la.
One of my favourite rum's to date, premium dark rum with treacle, raisins and caramel that is smooth to drink straight. A splash on a good vanilla ice cream creates sex sounds in your mouth... fantastic mixed with ginger and lime, but no point in wasting it.
I think I would have to agree with others, it does better after a little time to breathe, allowing it to bring out its full character.
Nose: Those dark chocolate coated stem gingers you get at Christmas. Earthy damp forest floors and smoky char from the casks. Dry, heavy roasted coffee beans and even some menthol. Pretty complex, and way more complex than standard “Black Seal”.
Palate: Good mouth feel. Bitter dark chocolate and unsweetened black coffee. Tannic (tea) and then quite sappy/resinous. Plenty of oak and some of that smoke from the barrel char that I found on the nose. Sours a little as it moves to the finish.
Finish: Long. Now it’s time for the herbs to play; totally savoury with pine sap, oak, herbal tablet and tails off with that menthol note.
This is a dark, rich rum that is strong but lacks depth. It tastes younger than it looks especially compared to top-tier aged rums. Its full of spice and caramel- big chocolate taste.
Der Rum besticht durch seinen sehr aussergewöhnlichen Rauch- und Karamellgeschmack. Etwas herb, zu einer kräftigen Zigarre passt er ganz gut.
The bottle with the box is super nice! Exclusive touch! You need to let it brieth for at least 20 minutes to become better. The taste us peppar and I also feel the bitternes that I have not felt before. Should be in the coolection and especially testing different Rum products.
Good rum but nothing special. Gosling delivers a solid rum that I rather mix than drink straight.
If you like to sip Gosling's flagship Black Seal rum, you're gonna really enjoy this much smoother, more elegant version. It's rich, thick and full of the flavors which Gosling's is known for....chocolate, port wine and spices.
Don't mix this with soda pop! Perfect just as it is.
You have to make sure you let it air before you drink it makes a big difference.
Was hoping for more, this is to spicy for a rhum, something added ?
This is an interesting rum, which smells of charred wood, tobacco, spice, molasses, and salted chocolate. Taste is more dry than sweet, so if you're ok with that, then you might enjoy this more than I do.
Sugar: 26 gpl. This is a sweet dark rum. In the glass it smells like Chocolate, cherries, vanilla, and oak and it tastes that way as well. It's very smooth with a bit of a bite at first but that goes away quickly and the rum goes down quite easily. It doesn't have a long finish and has a moderate after burn. It is quite enjoyable and is a big step up from the other Gosling rums. Mixing this rum would be a waste as it already has a bit of Cola taste in it. Not sure if it is worth the price tag in terms of a repurchasing. I liked it, but didn't like it enough to buy a second bottle right away. I give this an 7.5 for taste and it has the potential to be a 8 if you give points for the packaging.
Very expensive, and a spectacular presentation, but hot, harsh, and bitterly oaky. Not worth the price at all.
The bottle looks great with the black wax-seal, the bottle comes in a wooden box with hay and a glass-window. The rum is very complex, dark chocolate but not too sweet. It's for the advanced connaisseur, not for beginners. Not my things
Thick and heavy. It's the chocolate stout of rum. It tastes great, but I wouldn't drink more than one or two glasses before it would become too much. Could consider it as a re-buy.
A very good dark rum with lots of complexity. It is sweet and caramel flavored while also being spicy with a woody tone. Definitely a sipping rum verses Goslings Black Seal. Fairly smooth too. This is one of the few good sipping dark rums.
Gave it an 8 just for the awesome bottle and presentation. Looking forward to tasting it and will update the rating
The packaging led me to believe that this would be an exceptionally smooth full-bodied rum. Unfortunately, I found it rather plain and a bit harsh in the end. Wish companies would spend less on packaging/marketing and more on quality of their rum
The rum isn't the most amazing or complex and you can get a lot more for your money. The bottle, black seal and box make the rum feel more special than it is. It does have a nice spice but the flavour isn't quite up to the standard of a £60 rum
This rum has a lot of flavour without the sweetness of the regular Gosling's Black Seal Rum. Ice is the only thing needed to enjoy this fine rum, but not too much!
