Gosling's Family Reserve Old rum is crafted in Bermuda from the same blend as Gosling Black Seal but is aged longer in dark barrels. Each bottle is hand-labelled and numbered.

The presentation gets an obligatory comment. Beautiful bottle inside the box, with a lot of black wax. And the rum is a beautiful dark color too. Caramel nose, some sweetness, and a chocolate finish for me. There are cheaper rums I’d prefer, but it’s very good.

Family Reserve je blendem rumů, jejichž nejmladší složka je stará nejméně 16 let. Je tvořen stejnou směsí rumů jako Black Seal od stejné značky. Nejstarší složka v blendu by měla být až 19 let stará. Rum získla několik ocenění.
Aroma: Mokré zatuchlé dřevo, starý nábytek, skořice, javorový sirup, karamel. Lehce kouřové.
Chuť: Ultrasladká - spousta bonbónů, závan vanilky.
Dozvuk: Lehce kořenitý, špetka kokosu, sušené ovoce (rozinky, fíky). Středně dlouhý.
Sladkost: 3/3
Ochutnán vzorek.
Parádní vůně navnadí, přílišná přeslazenost uzemní. Vzorek mi bohatě stačil - na můj vkus přespříliš sladký rum.

This is a very tasty rum.. enjoyed neat. Don’t hesitate to try it if you find it. You won’t be disappointed. It’s much better than the black label.

When you said dark, full rum... you are still far from this.
Heavy and rich. Just a drop and your mouth will be full of tastes for looong minutes.

Vanilla/molasses nose reminiscent of their black rum. Very floral on the tongue, smooth, definitely mellowed with age. Slightly spicy but a nice warm after taste. Great when it has a chance to breathe and chill on ice. Bought this with a bottle of Papa Seal and will buy this one again over the Papa Seal.

This is one of those “must try before you die” rums. It’s smooth and delightful. It’s gosling’s on another level. Unfortunately, the pricetag is it’s greatest enemy. Any boxed rum will run you an extra penny, but this one doesn’t quite earn its retail denomination. Regardless, it is a wonderful drink for any cocktail or enjoyed on the rocks. Get it as a special gift, but only if you really like the person your gifting it to.

Absolutely whole complete balanced rum. Wine taste, aroma of plums, dried fruits, spices, dense and smooth. Not alcoholic. Just one light touch is missing to make it incredible.
Абсолютно цельный, полный, сбалансированный ром. Винный вкус, аромат сливы, сухофруктов, специй плотный и гладкий. Не спиртуозен. Не хватает лишь одного лёгкого штриха, чтобы он мог стать невероятным.

My purveyor sells this for just over $50.00 which makes this an excellent rum. At the estimated $86 it's still an excellent rum but lacking in a few things. First is the ABV, I would really like to try it at 42-43% rather than 40. Another thing would be the packaging. I really do not need a wooden box with a plexiglass slip front and a rope handle. Extra expense that just gets tossed out.
Whats inside the bottle is really good stuff. Tons of wood and the spit of residual bourbon. Big nose that invites perpetual sniffing. Not overly sugary which is always a good thing with aged rums. Maybe a tad thin on the tongue which is one of the reasons I'de like to see this less diluted.
If you find the likes of Centenario 25 too sweet as I do and your looking for an aged sipping rum, if the price is right Gosling's Old Rum is a great choice to try at least once.
