Gosling's Family Reserve Old rum is crafted in Bermuda from the same blend as Gosling Black Seal but is aged longer in dark barrels. Each bottle is hand-labelled and numbered.
A very good dark rum with lots of complexity. It is sweet and caramel flavored while also being spicy with a woody tone. Definitely a sipping rum verses Goslings Black Seal. Fairly smooth too. This is one of the few good sipping dark rums.
A buddy picked up a bottle of this and he and some friends went pirate on its ass and finished the bottle ... “ why is the alway gone “” so he picked up another bottle to bring home , to my luck I got to sample said bottle my buddy is smitten with this one and loves the absolute smoothness of it I’m kinda of it’s a very good rum but not my bottle thanks
But as the title says numbers matter as these are numbered by year and cask so not every bottle will taste the exact same
Now he picked up for $65 cdn so not a bad price for a top notch drinker 👍
Un très bon rum mais pour le prix il y en a des meilleurs. Tous de même un rum qui se démarque!
Bra förpackning, bra historia. Men framförallt en topp rom med mycket sötma och lång eftersmak, topp 10.
Very strong alcoholic aroma and burn. Fruity tones and rough alcoholic burn. Reminds me of irish whiskey.
Gosling's Family Reserve Old - good and cheap but very sweet , good for rum&coke
I purchased a bottle while visit Bermuda and have been enjoying as a sipper, nice sweet warm taste, will definitely buy again
Drinking it right now. This is a real rum. What a good rum should taste like. It's the the best I ever had but it would be great to drink in a leather arm chair by a fire listen to Exotica by Martin Denny
Long leg, strong kick, a little bit heavy but with nice aromas of honey cinnamon and smoked oak barrel. Pleasant
I recieved a bottle of this from students at the end of a term. Fantastic presentation from the straw filled box to the wax seal on the bottle. Once poured, the sweet smell of molasses & the contrasting scent of tobacco touch your senses. Once it hits your tongue the molasses continues and picks up cinnamon and nutmeg along the way. The finish is long and warm, smokey and fruity. What a great find.
I wanted to love this rum. I didn’t. All the notes of wood and amazing flavor typically found in an older rum were missing. Reminded me of just molasses.
40%. Don't let the packaging fool you... there's no age statement (NAS), so could be 2yo (or unaged) with a drop of 16. Also no additives disclosures. Notes: whoa, big chocolate chip cookie rum. Loads of brown sugar. Very rich and sweet. Very sweet. Slightly bitter, molasses-y finish, with a good bite.
A very strange experience, for this price point. I tried it at the house of a friend who is also into rum, and had been given a bottle by another friend. We all tried it, and praised certain qualities, but when the gifter left the room, my friend and I exchanged knowing looks. We were both pretty disappointed. There may only be 15g/L of added sugar, but the whole package is just sweet and messy. I'm really not impressed, and I don't want more. I don't drink rum for dessert. This is kind of an insult. And it just saddens me that so many people are willing to shell out so much cash for a mediocre rum when so many better ones are available for far less!
Made from molasses from what I understand. Accordingly, tastes a little more complex and deeper than most of the rums I've had so far. Still pretty smooth and very good. Better than a lot of the ones I've had so far.
At the moment my favourite sipping rum. Smooth and flavourful. I prefer it it neat, no ice.
Great bottle great packaging
Let it breath and then sip
Love this rum
Very smooth and exquisite taste! I cannot wait to get some more Cigars!
Thought this rum would give a lot more. Aroma is not as strong as it should be and lacks punch in flavour. Good colour but doesn't seem as viscous as it should be.
Has a similar taste to other Goslings brands. Honestly forgot about it by the time I finished it. Too nice for dark and stormies, but can’t keep with with the fine sipping rums to seems to compete with.
very dark, alcohol really comes through, oaky and overall fairly sweet, after a Santa Teresa I actually enjoyed this quite a lot on the rocks.
anbefalet af en ven
kan absolut ikke anbefale den
vil man have smag og fylde er det ikke denne rom der kommer på din hylde
After reading so many comments from others, I picked up a bottle for the collection. Then a second so I may actually try and enjoy the product. First Impression:
Definitely needs time in the glass to open up after being cooped up in a wax sealed bottle.
Upon first sniff, there was dark chocolate & dark caramel with a hint of coffee bean.
A little sip and there was distinctive heat on the pallet, hence the need to rest.
After 15+ minutes and some swirling, marked scents & flavours of sweet maple, a real pronounced pipe tobacco / cigar leaf and that vanilla/ caramel.
Still hot on the tongue with a fairly high alcohol finish.
I was only able to sample 1oz on this first opening, but looking forward to a 3 finger pour and at least an hour of open air time.
I think is has some real potential and look forward to diving in.
Orange marmalade and molasses, bitter dark chocolate, cooked apples and black pepper. A little cedar.
Definitely a particular rum,
bitter, strong, alcoholic.
It is not delicate, it is not aromatic.
For me it is not a good rum.
Received as a birthday present. Interesting display of wooden box. Upon pouring, it is rather dark, almost the color of cola. I think the aroma is light with an essence of molasses. The taste is lighter than expected - not as heavy on the tongue as expected. Overall enjoyable.
Relativ teuer. Nicht mein Favorit, aber auch nicht schlecht. Etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig für mich, erinnerte mich fast an Whiskey (natürlich nicht konkret vom Geschmack aber von der Komplexität her).
Bottle S/N: 7598/2006....marvelous taste for an Old Rum. Bottled in 2006 and experienced 12 years later in 2018. Well, I'd say its worth having a Cuban to justify the taste of an Old Rum with a spicy. smooth and elegant taste. I enjoy sipping it neat or on the rocks. On the rock, however, do spoil a bit of the smooth, dark, round bodied taste. Overall, I find it to be a rum one can appreciate and enjoy with a nice flavorful Cubano.
