Gosling's Family Reserve Old rum is crafted in Bermuda from the same blend as Gosling Black Seal but is aged longer in dark barrels. Each bottle is hand-labelled and numbered.

I love this stuff but have only had the benefit of a few glasses. I certainly think it is up there for wonderful dark rum colour, taste and smoothness. Deep caramel but not too sweet, that age just smooths out all the raw edges but retains wonderful flavour.

"Home sweet Home"
This rum is definitely one of my best rum's I own, and I prefer it over a lot of others. I'm not saying this because I am a Bermudian :-p but because I love sweet and rich in flavor rums. This rum has a dark texture and a smoothness better then any rum I have had thus far. The flavor is rich in molasses and chocolate; The texture is silky smooth like comparing dress pants to fine the linens but for your mouth. But this rum has a special place in my heart I hope when you taste it haves a special place in yours. Thank you for reading and great sipping.......

Now thats not quite how you expect a rum to be. Smoky and some sort of oily. A dark rum that has so much variety but just not my kind of stuff. But if you like extraordinary rum give it a try. All sort of different.

This is a true dark rum , well balanced smooth taste slightly sweet. MY favourite rum, even bottled like a classic.

I am certainly no rum tasting genious but with this "old rum" I expected it to be a bit more "mature" than it is. There are many other rums for half the price that have a compareable taste. I could't find any unique characteristic.
I wasn't a fan of this at first but like others have said, if you let it breath in the glass for a bit, the rum evolves with more flavors. One shouldn't pour and drink anyway. Again, by letting this sit even for a minute or two, you get more flavors out of it.

Fantastic nose. Little sweet but lot of flavours, full of fruits. Easy to taste and drink. Was tasting it together with 5 other rums and turned out to be a winner
First, the packaging was fantastic and the wooden box was a great preview for the Rum inside. I oredered this through my local liquor store after being a fan of the Goslings Black Seal for some time. The flavors are robust, finishes strong and has a wonderful aroma.

My purveyor sells this for just over $50.00 which makes this an excellent rum. At the estimated $86 it's still an excellent rum but lacking in a few things. First is the ABV, I would really like to try it at 42-43% rather than 40. Another thing would be the packaging. I really do not need a wooden box with a plexiglass slip front and a rope handle. Extra expense that just gets tossed out.
Whats inside the bottle is really good stuff. Tons of wood and the spit of residual bourbon. Big nose that invites perpetual sniffing. Not overly sugary which is always a good thing with aged rums. Maybe a tad thin on the tongue which is one of the reasons I'de like to see this less diluted.
If you find the likes of Centenario 25 too sweet as I do and your looking for an aged sipping rum, if the price is right Gosling's Old Rum is a great choice to try at least once.
