Sugar: 26 gpl. This is a sweet dark rum. In the glass it smells like burnt sugar, Chocolate, cherries, vanilla, and oak and it tastes that way as well. It's very smooth with a bit of a bite at first but that goes away quickly and the rum goes down quite easily. It doesn't have a long finish and has a moderate after burn. It is quite enjoyable and is a big step up from the other Gosling rums. Mixing this rum would be a waste as it already has a bit of Cola taste in it. Not sure if it is worth the price tag in terms of a repurchasing. I liked it, but didn't like it enough to buy a second bottle right away. I give this a 6.5 for taste and a half point for the packaging.
Writhing this as I sip my first glass of this rather special run. Chocolate and tobacco in the smell, very dark colored and a spicy taste that is not too sweet. Chocolate in the after taste as well.
Au nez, on sent le caramel, le chocolat et la cannelle.
En bouche, arômes de miel, de vanille et d'épices.
La finale est persistante.
Opening a box and bottle is very impressive, but the rum inside does not fully live up to the 8 or 9 presentation. Smooth on the nose, very dark rich color first taste a lot of spice and a slight alcohol bite. A richer more complex variant than normal Goslings. I truly expected a little more.
Nice dark amber color
Nose: raisins, Seville orange, vanilla , dried dates
Taste: spicy, vanilla, raisins and Sevilla orange, warm feeling with some bitter aftertaste.
The rhum would rest longer in the glass to open up - but it was too late for me when I heard that (I only had 3 cl to taste it and I did it very quickly).
Dosage: 10-15 gr/L
This rum is not too sweet. Reminds me of Zaya 12 (cocoa and spice).
It's quite rich. I get cocoa, dry fruits and herbs in the nose. There is also the burned sugar and mandarine. Aromas are from a column still, but the combination is not bad.
The taste goes also in that direction. I get burned sugar, tannins, dry fruits (I have mandarine and peaches here). In the end some caramel, cocoa and cloves.
The finish is spicy, again tannins, dry fruits and caramel with cocoa.
It's a nice Christmas rum on the cocoa sind. Would rate it with 76 points.
Smell: cocoa, dry fruits, herbs, burned sugar, mandarine, some spices, some barrel (oak).
Taste: burned sugar, tannins, dry fruits (mandarin, peach), caramel, cocoa, cloves
Finish: spice, some tannins, cocoa, dark chocolate, spices, oak and earth
Sweetness: 2.5/5
Fruit: 2.5/5
Spice: 3.5/5
Mildness: 3.5/5
Value (60€): 2/5
Burnt sugar nose. Very thick and rich palette with notes of toffee and banana. Sickly sweet banoffee finish, almost too much
There are notes of sweet mixed fruit and a little bitter marmalade.
"Sipped the Family Reserve is initially very sweet. On the tongue, especially you get sweet caramel and a chocolate mouthful initially."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Strong burnt sugar, chocolate, and tobacco on the nose. More oak on the pallet than I care for.
