Gosling's Black Seal rum

Gosling's Black Seal

Bermuda | Dark | 40% ABV

The James Gosling family business first produced Gosling Black Seal rum in 1806, and it is now the oldest surviving business on the island of Burmuda.

Gosling 'Black Seal' rum received it's name from the black wax originally used to seal the bottles. It is Bermuda's most widely exported product and considered the nation's national drink.

Lest there be any doubt, this is for a Dark & Stormy. That's about it. Too prominent a flavor for anything else.

This was recommended by my local liquor store owner when my daughter was picking me up a dark rum for a gift. I gave it a 6 only because I gave Myers a 5 and I like it slightly more than Myers but will not purchase for myself. As everyone says, a sweet black rum but to me leaves a bitter coating on my tongue after drinking straight up. Definitely a "mixer only" to me. I did finish off the bottle so as not to hurt the daughters feelings but won't purchase again.

So I prefer Kraken whenever I drink Black rum. However the place I went to tonight offered a Dark N' Stormy made with Gosling's Black Seal which is a Bermuda black rum. It's a nice rum with a very sweet flavor that blends well with the tartness of the ginger ale. It's a nice rum to have as a mixer but in all honesty I probably wouldn't have this straight or on the rocks. It's not a sipping rum because it is sweet. It also doesn't have the complex flavors that other black rums have. It's a decent rum and one that I did enjoy but it may not be the right choice for everyone.

Lekker voor in een Dark&Stormy maar puur niet zo fijn.

I had tried this at a bar in a Dark N' Stormy thought it tasted like soot. After drinking half of it, I had the bartender to it if with more ginger beer and it was still horrible.

Decent supper. Nice flavor but nothing that sets it apart.

This stuff is not bad, a bit of molasses similar to a Black Strap type of rum. Good with a splash or heck a dousing of Coke.

Cinnamon, nutmeg and caramel nose with burnt caramel finish.

Smells good, tastes okay on ice, best rum I've had with cola. Not too expensive at Β£24.
