The James Gosling family business first produced Gosling Black Seal rum in 1806, and it is now the oldest surviving business on the island of Burmuda.
Gosling 'Black Seal' rum received it's name from the black wax originally used to seal the bottles. It is Bermuda's most widely exported product and considered the nation's national drink.

Unlike a Bacardi that brashly announces its presence, and overstates its strength, the Black Seal mixes quietly into a drink, adding a bit of sweetness to the flavor. Smooth enough to sip, excellent to mix, and most importantly: does not bring on a hangover the way that the more harsh rums will.
Works well in a lot of Tiki drinks. Recommended if your going this route.
Very lovely & sweet tasting rum. Definitely up there with high end rums.
Man, this is the best taste out there for the price. And I know I'm not alone in my thinking, after sharing with a couple of friends I have converted them from Rye to Rum
Strong slightly treacle aroma on opening with slight burnt overtone might not suit everyone but this really suited my taste buds. I got some spice flavours at the end of cinnamon and perhaps nutmeg. Delicious mixed. Highly recommended!!
This rum serves a special place in the collection! It's the base for a Dark'N'Stormy cocktail and really can't be beaten for that. It's rotten for anything else.
it's just very chocolate-y to me. I drunk quite a few Rums, but I am far from considering myself a connoisseur. I like spiced Rums and well.. whatever I simply "like". but this one stands out VERY strongly from the crowd for me. I loved it straight and I love it with Pepsi. (yes - I do drink Rums with Pepsi - as I don't Like Coca-Cola) :D
Dark n Stormies are great crisp summer beverage!!
Also, made a double chocolate rum cake which was delicious.
Dark and smokey, no ice needed.
'well balanced and nuanced with butterscotch, vanilla and caramel'
"Goslings Black Seal rum review by The Ultimate Rum Guide"
The nose is very pungent. Heavy thick treacly molasses and sweet caramel.
"It’s initially sweet like liquorice, there is a little heat and spice in the mix and the finish is long and slightly bitter."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

a burnt rum smelling rum. I am apprehensive. Very strange at first, I didn’t like my first sip. However as I drunk more I couldn’t stop. I’m not sure what it is but it warmed on me. Slightly coffee tatse? It’s moderately sweet and doesn’t have a flat aftertaste that I’d expect. I actually would drink again. Overall 9
