The mango adds a nice fruity tropical flavour but is not overwhelming. An excellent standby.

Enjoyed a bottle of Brinley Gold Mango Rum while vacationing in Las Vegas. Unique bottle and label design. Pure alcohol and plenty of soapy mango to the nose and palate. Strong burn at the end. Mix this up with your favorite soda.

I finally got my hands on a bottle of this one. To me, mango is just as much associated with tropical flavors as coconut, lime, and bananas. Adding mango nectar to a very good white rum has always been my way of achieving a good mango and rum mix, yet being very sweet and thick. Since I have great respect for the Brinley line of rums, I did not hesitate to try this one at only $23.
The Brinley family obviously has a master distiller with an advanced degree in biochemistry. This rum is completely transparent with a pale yellow color. It does not taste like an actual mango nor does it taste artificial. The combination of white rum and mango renders this one as another definitive refreshing tropical drink. It can be sipped neat, on the rocks, or in exotic tropical drinks. Do NOT waste it in cola!

Shipwreck Mango Rum - 6 out of 10

Tonight’s Rum, Shipwreck Mango from St. Kitts, my number 160 of my 500 target.
The Rum is light in color and appearing young. As I type, it’s a couple feet away, and the bouquet is wonderful. Mango and citrus is everywhere. The Rum, remember this is supposed to be a Rum, is very hidden, just a hint of an alcohol smell. The first thing you notice when taking that first sip is sweetness. Almost syrup-like but not thick. The flavor is definitely mango with orange and perhaps watermelon too. In the mouth the flavors are very bold; perhaps serving the Rum on ice would have been better. The Rum in this spirit is lost, it could just as easily have been a Vodka. In the throat, it’s mild, easy. The finish reveals more of the mango, but now a bit artificial with a hint of bitterness. I tried the Rum on ice and it’s definitely better, the cold softens the bold flavors, or perhaps it should be served with a bit of tonic and ice tempering the sweetness a bit more. 6 out of 10.
