J.D. Shore Limited Reserve Edition.

While in Nova Scotia this summer, I am sampling a number of locally made Rum and I had a chance to drop by Halifax Distilling Co., located on Lower Water St., Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. This company offers five different rums that can be purchased at the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation outlets and the products include J. D. Shore Gold Rum, J. D. Shore Spiced Rum, J. D. Shore Black Rum, J.D. Shore White Rum, as well as J.D. Shore Cream Rum. In addition a J. D. Shore small batch Limited Edition Rum is only available in a 375 ml format and available for purchase only at the Halifax Distillery Co.

I sampled the J. D. Shore small batch Limited Edition Rum (I understand this Small batch Rum was aged for 5 years) and was blown away by this Rum. My first impression from the tiny sample in the glass was that this is definitely a Quality Rum, one that is not destined to be used for mix, rather to be savoured neat. Once the sample hits your taste buds, you realize that this is a β€œpure rum” without additives and added sugar. In a way this reminded me somewhat of MGXO but with a different finish. This rum is not for everyone given its price tag ($58 / 375 ml bottle) and dryness but in my case it is the type of rum I prefer and it is well worth the price tag (as a matter of fact I purchased two bottles).

I have tasted several rums this past year and not very often do I come across a Rum that pleases me as much as this one. In rating this Rum I considered and compared other rums I have rated β€œ9” and, in my opinion, this rum is tastier that these, therefore earning a β€œ10” rating.

I have no ties with this company whatsoever and I recommend anyone that enjoys β€œaged rum” to drop by the Halifax Distilling Co., and see for themselves. Amazing Rum!

UPDATE: Having consumed two other bottles of this product, I maintain that this is an awesome Rum and will continue to stock this in my liquor cabinet, however, my other β€œ10” ratings are definitely more complex and for this reason I am re-adjusting my score to a respectable β€œ9”.

A small batch production & a small bottle (375ml) Tasty, smooth & slightly syrupy... worth a try if you visit Nova Scotia

I had an opportunity to try this rum and it was not bad at all. It had a unique aroma and was different both straight up and mixed.

My daughter, who is going to school at Dalhousie, bought me a bottle as a Christmas gift. It has hints of burnt sugar and molasses. It's not the most aromatic rum I've ever had but it does have a lovely flavour and is very, very smooth. The bottle calls it a black rum, but it's not as dark as even say Lemonhart rum.
