To be honest, I bought this to make kick ass Cuba libras but found out it stands up on its own, although drinking it neat is on a par with going into an Indian restaurant and ordering the hottest curry on the menu.
Neat, it kicks like a mule, but has a surprising depth and complexity that comes through the alcoholic assault.
Over ice, this rum becomes much easier to drink, letting the oak and molasses shine.
Enjoyable, but handle with care!

Bought it for blending and cask finishing. Recognizable added sugar, not so strong burn with tones of oak in body and aftertaste. I would prefer to mix it or cask it's but still drinkable itself.

Good spiced rum but level of alcohol 69% kills the taste on the tongue. I think its good stuff for rum based drinks to pull up the %

Strong notes of burnt caramel and clove initially. Transitions into bold oaky dried fruit with a nice hogo funkiness to balance it out. Certainly a good amount of heat but theres so much flavor competing for attention, it oddly sort of just adds to the experience. Certainly nothing subtle about this rum and dangerously easy to drink over ice.

Oof is a great word to encapsulate this monster of a rum. Flavor bomb! Intense cinnamon, caramel, vanilla. Oof!

I'm still early on my rum journey, and this is my first foray into overproofed rums but I have to say, I really enjoyed this! I first tried it as a sipper, and despite the strong nose, it drinks smooth with a really nice, warm burn that wasn't as harsh as I expected it to be. There is a lot of good flavors in here. Really got the plum on the nose, and when I drank it there was a great balance of molasses, vanilla, cinnamon, some other spices and a lovely smokey overtone. I know this wont be for everyone but I really enjoyed this, but its not something I would drink neat too often. Hence I gave it a 7 but its probably worthy of an 8. Looking forward to trying other overproof rums because of this one.

This is my second plantation; after the 5yo Barbados I found out that Plantation is often using second aging in cognac casks and adds sugar (quit a lot actually) wich are both things I really don't like. Then the O.F.T.D. cought my attention; no sugar, no cognac casks and a good price considering that you get 1,5 bottle taking the 69% ABV into account.

Marketed as a mixer but sampled as a sipper. I wrote it before; every rum out there is a sipper, or not. I don't mix. Now 69% is a bit steep so I toned it down; 2 parts and some rum, 1 part water so we are at around 46-50% ABV.

The nose is really nice, sweet and inviting; pineapple, banana, some oakiness, sweet flowers and some. It makes you look forward to sipping this but then....On the palate the whole thing changes and all those really nice scents do not escape two dominating tastes; raisins and charred wood. It starts with the sweet sensation of raisins but soon the charred wood takes over and the whole thing becomes bitter in a rather unpleasant way.

In the end it is the charred wood sensation that remains the longest so you end up with an aftertaste as if you had been chewing charcoal. I am working hard to finish this bottle but have to confess this is never my last drink for the day. Maybe usefull as a mixer but for me this rum is simply a miss. A one trick pony.
