Plantation Overproof O.F.T.D.

Very nice overproof dark rum. Interesting flavors but you will definitely know it is overproof! No hiding that at 69% abv. This is my go-to overproof rum for mixing at this time. Try it in a Pain Killer, you will not regret it! Cheers!

Yes, it is strong, but the high alcohol does not mask the amazing bold flavor.

I could describe the nose, the flavor, and the finish, but instead I'll just say this- add 1/2 an oz to almost any cocktail which wants dark rum flavors. Great as a floater, great as a general mixer, just great, and CHEAP. I debated a 10/10 honestly on value alone, but couldn't make myself do it. This is a blend of Jamaican, Bajan and Demerara rums, but I mostly taste the Demerara flavors. If I to build a home bar with only 2 bottles of rum, this would be one of them.

Cork review: 4/10, ACTUAL cork so 1 bonus point for that, but a bit weak. The neck of the bottle is like a 5 year old trying to choke out the adonis that is the cork. *puhhhhh*

This overproof rum contains 69% alcohol and is produced in the Caribbean. The nose is very intense (but somehow not that much of an alcohol aroma), with orange and milk chocolate. The taste is again very intense and complex with molasses, oak, chocolate, nutmeg and a little bit of a weird oily flavor. It has a very long lasting aftertaste which contains oak, tobacco, nutmeg and South African Rooibos tea. I also tried it with the alcohol level reduced (with a bit of water). This did not make much of a difference.

This rum amazes me. All that proof and power yet an amazing sipper. I worked through the amazing value 1L bottle far faster than Id care to admit. I love this as a sipper and I like it almost as much in cocktails to bring some high proof and complexity. If you haven't tried this make a point of it. It's just terrific. There's a beautiful lightly toasted marshmallow and caramelized candy taste along with some spicy tastes like allspice or clove. For being such an incredible proof it just sips so easy and has such a long lovely finish.

Not my rum. Very dark room with a huge kickback in your throat. Even mixing this with coke is difficult to drink. Be careful!

Not as delicious as it's made out to be by the lore of the blend but still a decently good overproof blended rum.

Zatiaľ najsilnejší rum, aký som pil, bol Companero Extra Anejo Panama s voltážou 54%. Ten mi nesadol, okrem silnej pálivosti bol značne dochutený do čokolády, quasi likér. Mám rád tradičné, skôr suchšie druhy. A keďže som už dlhšie priaznivcom značky Plantation, bola len otázka času, kedy obstarám aj fľašku OFTD. Balenie je identické ako pri 3 Stars White, resp. Dark Original, teda vysoká fľaša, farba je tmavá, ladená do rubínu. Vôňa je intenzívna, ovocná a nasládla, pripomína práve druhý spomenutý. Chuť to potvrdzuje, dominuje spálený karamel, prezreté ovocné tóny (slivkový lekvár), na pozadí trochu pálenky - slivovice, mysľou prebehne dávnejšie skúšaný Pusser´s British Navy, kde je však dochuť pálenky oveľa výraznejšia. Priznám sa, že tento rum nedokážem piť tak, ako všetky ostatné, teda usrkávaním pri izbovej teplote. Na to je príliš silný. Keď som ho ale riadne naložil ľadom, pri dnešných vysokých teplotách ide asi o úplne ideálne pitie. Ľad síce tlmí buket, no tóny tohto rumu sú mi už dobre známe a tak tento čin pri danej cenovej kategórii ani nepovažujem za barbarstvo. Určite by bol vhodný aj do miešaných drinkov (nepraktizujem), jedná sa v podstate o koncentrát Dark Original. Na bežný horúci deň dobrá voľba, rum však nemá čím nadchnúť. Miestny priemerný rating 7,6 považujem každopádne za riadne ustrelený.

Usually I only use higher overproof rums in cocktails. But this bottle is also an amazing sipper on it's own.

Very impressed. I'm not going to regurgitate what is on the label as far as the nose and taste, but I find it to be quite close to as described on the label. There is a lot going on here; it's spicy in part from both the flavors and alcohol content, but goes down amazingly well. There are a lot of lower proof bottles that are way rougher than this one. Mildly sweet up front, and lightly bitter on the back with that Jamaican signature in the middle, but not at all over the top. Great blend, that is a surprisingly decent sipper! Destroys other rums at far higher prices, plus 1 liter. YES.
