Having first familiarized myself with Havana Club 7, I assumed FdC 7 would be similar (direct competitors, even). Tasting this one, and then both side by side, I was surprised to find that they are remarkably different! While the HC is rich, oaky, and smokey, this FdC is rather lighter-bodied... off-sweet, with notes of vanilla and caramel. To me, the Flor de Caña is like a dryer version of the candy-like Plantation Barbados 5! (Which can only be a good thing.) However, it also has some off-putting high-notes at first pour.

So, although I'm a little disappointed not to have found a HC doppelgänger state-side, and am no longer sure quite what flavor profile to look for when a classic recipe calls for Spanish-style/Puerto Rican rum, I'm satisfied with my purchase and enjoying mixing with it very much.

Kudos for FdC for not adulterating their rums with gobs of sugar! I may decide to use this as my go-to Gold/Spanish-style column-distilled aged rum, with Mt. Gay Eclipse (which is blended) as a budget back-up.

Not my favorite Flor de Cana, but my favorite for mixing. Nice price and great flavor when mixed. Definitely one I keep in my bar.

Note: I'm a sipper. My opinion is based on sipping characteristics.

When I bought this, I honestly did not expect much. And boy was I properly impressed. This gets my personal best all-rounder award. You can have it every day and it feels just great. Nothing overwhelming, nothing overpowered, a greatly balanced sipper. And at less than half the price of the 18-year, it gives it hell of a run for its money. Excellent, truly excellent.

Mooie toegankelijke rum, iets voor beginners , en niet gezoet.

Vanilla and alcohol in aroma. Nothing too outstanding in taste, but in a good way, tastes pleasantly. Bites throat just a tiny bit. It's okay to drink straight, but probably won't be the rum that you will remember long.

This is one of my favorite rums. I thought it was a good price for the quality. I have nothing bad to say about it. It is definitely worth a try.

I must have had too much expectations from this 7yo. It is ok, nice smell not so aromatic but drinkable as it is.

I really like the flavors. Great rum for mixed drinks or shots. Not enough complexity or finish for sipping. But it's cheap. I can see myself keeping a bottle around.

Light brown in colour.
Slight smell of coffee, and alcohol.
Overwhelming taste of alcohol.

Je commence à découvrir les rhums de cette distillerie par ce 7 ans d'âge.
Il est tout à fait correct. Je suis impatient de découvrir la suite !

Tasty, but not so good for me. It took me a long time to drink it.
