While it's better than the 4 year old Anejo Oro, it's still not a sipping rum. It does make a better mixed drink so it's worth the upcharge. Tastes a bit more vanilla and woody and no after-burn.

Juste bon pour mixer, ce rhum en lui même n'a rien et n'apporte rien...
Très faible odeur et peu de goût en bouche. Mais un peu meilleur que le 4 ans

This rum is pretty good for the price! This is about the extent of sipping rum for my taste

This rum has a classic amber hue and a very nice aroma which does not lead one to think of molasses. Kind of a minor paradox.

The flavor does have some of that molasses taste to it but still keeps itself on the dry side. A hint of sweetness initially combined with a nice vanilla flavor swiftly revealing oak undertones and some pepperiness. Surprisingly mild warmth rather than a burn. The finish is dry and has some of the oak tannin bitterness which fades slowly. There are clearly other flavors present but I'm not able to distinguish them adequately. For a 7-year rum this is rather smooth. Borderline sipping rum for me but I recommend trying it as a sipper as well as a mixer. Definitely a rum to have in one's cabinet. Complex and delightful.

Not sweet or very soft, but balanced vanilla / oak / caramel. I drink it in the mix.

I've drunk bucket loads of the 7 yr. old Flor de Cana. It is cheap enough to mix (around 22 euro's here), it goes extremely well with cola, yet is good enough to sip. It might be the most versatile rum in the world. It fits racous parties as much as quiet late drinking on your own. I've always loved the warm nutty, buttery caramel and vanilla notes in Flor de Cana, though it's not too sweet and I was relieved to see that testresults showed it has no or very little sugar added. I also had the pleasure of drinking it in its home country Nicaragua where it is a staple for young hipsters as well as old grannies drinking in their rocking chairs. Also it is delightfully cheap over there. When I left Nicaragua I was sweating Flor de Cana Gran Reserva.

This rum is good yet I would not choose it primarily for sipping neat due to it's slightly edgy character. An ice cube may help to dilute the alcohol feeling (even though me and my friends drank it mostly neat and enjoyed it). I don't mix so I can't say how it works there, but it must work as an exceptionally great mixer as it is not very sweet and remains strong. So you can sip it if you are ready for some edge, but within Flor de Caña I would definitely reach for the wonderful 12 year old.
