I bought this just by chance at an airport. Didn't expect much of it since it was fairly cheap and reviews seemed OK. I poured me a small glass and stuck my nose in it to notice a fairly nice but typical scent of caramel. First sip and BAM! What was that? A very rich taste of vanilla and coconut (!), followed by tobacco? Caramel, or is it butterscotch? Very interesting. And a long tail of balanced sweetness and fruits follow. Though the initial reaction it isn't heavy in any way, quite balanced and light in it's flavor. Very smooth. Loved it, but it isn't my favorite. More of an interesting encounter, and something really unexpected. I would be interested to find any of the more matured versions of it.

It is a goon one and got its price, a real option but don’t havoc the quality to be taken as a brandy.

I used to be a scotch drinker and after trying this I am a 12 year Flor De Cana drinker. Best tasting aged spirit I have ever tried.

It is a rum that is so well balanced, not too sweet, not to dry, no strong alcohol taste, pleasuring warming taste, so balanced it doesn't stand out negative in any way buy doesn't impress so much neighter. It's a rum you can't do absolutely wrong with but it did not make me fall in love with. Good for sipping, disappears when mixing.

Muy equilibrado, fácil de tomar, suave y con buen regusto final. No demasiado dulce, en nariz sin embargo tenía notas de canela y chocolate. Muy indicado para tomar solo, sin ni siquiera hielo

More elegant and subdued version of 7 year, with sweeter nose but with more alcoholic bite, this series of rums is really full of surprises.

This is exactly what I love in a fantastic rum. It’s rich and bold without being a cloying sugar bomb. Just the perfect amount sweetness lingers on the lips with a nice long, clean and warm finish. A lot of the usual suspects on the nose but refined with so much more complexity with additional notes of whipped butter, buckwheat honey, white grape and a touch of earthy-nuttiness. The palate follows with the addition of warming spices, butterscotch and slightest hint of citrus peel. Not overly woody but terrifically aged with absolutely no dustiness or graininess from the casks. There’s no need to mask anything here. One of the most balanced rums I’ve had. Medium-light body with no syrupiness. This is a real aged rum and not a bottled rum cocktail like so many others.

A sympathetic rum for its age with some very little or slightly sweetness (and bourbon-dry taste but not like apleton or mountgay, little less) not bad not great just for 1 time to taste it.

Many years ago, I compared this 12 year Flor de Cana with their 7 year and could not tell them apart. I have held off in buying this rum for that very reason. This one was $33 and their 7 year was $20. Well, comparing both side by side in Glencairn glasses after letting them breathe for 30 minutes led me to almost the same conclusion. However, in today's test, the 12 year has a less noticeable burn and a very subtle amount of extra flavors in the after taste. Is this worth another $13 over their 7 year old? I don't think so. Will it wind up as bad as their 18 year old? I hope not!

I liked this rum a lot. Great oakey flavor with a good amount of spice, but not too overbearing. I drank it on the rocks and was a nice sipper when added with a cigar.

Tried the 7yr old and the 18 yr old and wasn’t impressed by either. The 12 yr old though is a quality sipper. Smooth and tasty, albeit not overly complex.
