Nicaragua | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled
A sugar-free 12-year old, ultra premium rum that is sustainably produced (Carbon Neutral & Fair Trade certified). From a 5th generation family estate, it is naturally aged without artificial ingredients, distilled 100% with renewable energy and KOSHER certified. A full-bodied rum with a long and smooth finish that lingers in the palate. Best enjoyed in a Rum Old Fashioned or with a splash of premium sparkling water or ginger ale and an orange twist.

I tried the Flor de Cana 7 year not long ago and was not very impressed and my first impression of this 12 year was also not so good. But after adding ice and getting about 1/4 of the way through the bottle (not at one time) I am absolutely not disappointed. The trick was putting it on the rocks. It really mellowed and smoothed itself out after adding some ice. Not overly sweet but definite vanilla and caramel taste and with ice the harshness was cut down considerably. I have had room temperature bottom shelf vodkas that were not as harsh as this was neat. But on the rocks this rum is well balanced and the price point was also right well under $40.
I cannot recommend this rum. It's a bit boring, no complex, no evolution. I can't find the balance in the mouth and nose of a 12-year-old rum. The aftertaste of it is short and alcoholic, I was happy to finish the bottle
You can honestly find much better rums for this price.
This rum has a lot of caramel taste/smell with a smooth and sweet finish.
Having been recommended this by a friend maybe I was expecting too much, but this is pretty basic fare. No complexity to speak of and an underwhelming 40%, the only real plus for me is that it isn't too sweet. I'm guessing there are better rums at this end of the market and won't be buying again.
The Flor de Caña 12 exhibits a pleasingly complex taste profile that seems to contain tiny hints of minerals. This is perhaps because of its origin; I wouldn't know. But it is a very fine rum indeed and will please most people. You should be aware, however, that it's anything but sweet so if that's what you're looking for, don't park here; drive on by. It'd certainly suit being mixed in a drier style cocktail but I don't recommend it as a sipper for this very reason. No complaints though; this was a pleasant surprise for me and I'd definitely buy it again.

"Flor de Cana 12-Year rum review by The Ultimate Rum Guide"
There is very little astringency or “booze” noted in the nose.
"A sip reveals a very smooth yet spicy rum. There is very little burn it tingles on the lips and tongue for a long time. It is a long finish."

J'aime bien l'équilibre entre le goût boisé et la saveur de caramel.
Je le bois sans glace et sans tracas!
