Great for whisky drinkers with notes of chocolate, toffee, dried fruit, tropical fruit, and spices.
A very long taste and a broad and slow fading bouquet. Sweet at the beginning, but not too much. Wineberry flavor, but not too much. Rank 2-6 in my current collection in direct comparison.
This is my favorite Opthimus to date. Kind of similar to the 25 year, but with more oak and spice. Also has a nice hint of whisky, which is not overpowering. Very nicely sweet.
Has a sweet honey nose, with caramel, oak, spice, and whisky.
Easy drinking at only 38%abv. A GREAT rum!
it's realy the best of all Opthimus-Rums and the Best i ever had !!
That was new and great experience for me. I learned a lot about rum history and production (solera method), people who work at the distillery and, of course, something new about rum.
We had four sorts for degustation.
Punta Cana XOX
Opthimus XO
Unhiq XO
Cubaney Centenario
They all are smooth, great taste, unique sorts sharing common Dominican cane\soil\roots.
All has intriguing aroma, vanilla and fruits on palate, a bit woody. Definitely in sweet league. All sorts have long pleasant aftertaste.
The devil was in nuances )
(I think person next to me (beer drinker) did not detect any differences. For me that was more or less obvious).
So (AFAIR, one week later)...
1st was Punta Cana: super fruity, oily, likely most smooth.
2nd Opthimus: dark chocolate notes, with little alcohol kick on palate.
3rd Unhiq: the little kick on lips, rich and longest aftertaste.
Finally Cubaney: most woody and most of tobacco notes, less sweet.
All of them (classic solera) - must try for the rum connoisseur.
Aroma is beautiful, sweet and oaky. Molasses and vanilla stand out. Tastes smooth and warm. There is plenty of oak but I like that. Tried it with and without a chunk of ice. Great either way. This is a generous 9 but it's way too good for an 8.
Rhum rond et raffiné. Rond doux et sucré. Sur le caramel. Facile a boire. Meilleur que le 18 ans, mais moins que le 25ans.
Let your whisky lover friends try this rum and they will convert.
