A litte bit smoother than the V/X but still with that Jamaican feel.

Smooth and tasty. I really enjoy it neat. At first sip it is lush, full of flavour and fulfilling. The aftertaste is a little flat though.

This is my second bottle, first was Rare Blend 12, and I like it a lot. Maybe not that exotic or mature taste, but it is smooth, delicious and easy to drink.
In side by side comparison with Diplomatico Kettle Batch I prefer Appleton.

Thought I would try the new Appleton Estate Reserve 8 Yr & Appleton Rare Casks 12 yr Rums recently released from Jamaica. I was really surprised with the younger rum which I find even better than the Older version of the Appleton Rare Blend 12 yr version and Its quality is definitely worthy of being drank neat. The new version of the 12 year (Rare Casks) is also much better than the older version and in my opinion both dessrve a β€œ9” rating.

Update (21-11-25): Reviewed score on this rum, still a very good sipping rum but not worth a β€œ9”. Score reduced to β€œ8”.

This is a very good rum with excellent flavor and smoothness. I prefer it on the rocks with a twist of lime.

Best of Appleton rum I tasted ... yet. Better than the V/X

I could hardly differentiate between this one (8yr old) and the 12yr old. And I love the 12.. The eight is unusually more expensive than the 12yr in my region, I am unsure why, but that explains why I have taken so long to try it.
What a beauty, not as much funk as the 12, but just enough. Lovely depth of flavour and a nice abv to boot giving it balance and a mmmm at the end. Splendid

Tried this with El Dorado 12 year + Angostura 7 year + Flor De CaΓ±a 12 + Ron Zacapa Centenario Sistema Solero 23

Loved the richness of flavour of this rum.

Am concerned about sugar levels in rum and my amateur palate couldn’t detect much in this unlike the Zacapa!
