Bought on discount at Asda supermarket at £15 so thought it was worth a try and got to say compared to captain Morgan and lambs rum etc its a winner with a mixer, being not as sweet and a more subtle flavour its even just passable neat for me.

I can get the 1.75L bottle where I live for the equivalent of about $30, so for what it is, this is an incredible deal. Sipping, you can get more than a hint of vanilla out of this, but there are better options for that. Because of the price I get the big bottle to mix, and it yields great results.

Having tried the Flor de Caña 12 a couple of years ago I thought I'd give this a go. The 12 was pretty good although not amazingly exciting, so I tried to approach this as a different product altogether and thereby eschew my preconceptions. It's sweet and warm on the nose with almost no hint of what's to come. In the mouth, Christmassy (is that even a word?) with hints of vanilla and an odd brandy-like note. It's spicy and not terribly smooth up front, but mellows to a silky texture. Like the rest of their product range, the Flor de Caña 5 has no added sugar and I couldn't help feeling that just a little would've gone a long way here and helped to bring forward some of the flavours that seem to me so subtle that they're kinda lost. It isn't a patch on the FdC 12 year but a difference of 7 years in the barrel counts for something I guess. To sum up it's hard to say that this had any outstanding characteristics but in fairness it's not bad at all, just a bit 'nothingy.'

For its price, it is a good rum for cocktails or even on the rocks. Don't look for a complex rum or a wide variety of tastes, just an inexpensive and honest rum

This rum does not have a lot of flavor and will get lost when you mix it with coke. It does not have the bite of similar priced rums.

Marketing tells us a lot about sugar-free, gluten-free, kosher, volcanic soil, renewable energy and bla-bla-bla...
About this rum itself: very soft rum, which, perhaps, could be used to distinguish it from other similar rums. But personally, I expect something more from rum. The aroma is very subtle. It is probably absolutely impossible to recognize it by its aroma. And this is a significant minus. The taste also does not stand out, at least for a mediocre connoisseur like me. At the same time, there is nothing annoying like dominant vanilla or sugar. The rum is honest, soft, pleasant, but nothing special. Rather, for cocktails, or to warm the insides, or as a start to travel into the world of real rums, not crap like Captain Morgan or Bacardi. Little better than Flor de Caña Extra Seco 4-Year.
I see no reason to buy it again - to many much better rums for this price. Besides it is from Nicaragua, which has been supporting russia in its aggression against Ukraine since 2014.

Not crazy but a decent rum without any pretension.

Vanilla note on the nose. Carmel and woody notes up front with a light Vanilla finish.
