even heavier molasses and syrup flavors up front than the 5, a long burn on the back. with a chew, it lights up the cheeks. less oily than the 5

Bought me 2*3cl sample of this great rum from a member in a Swedish rum group.
This Limited Edition of The Real McCoy, aged for 12 Years, are a blend of Pot and Column still rum. This version is released at ABV 46% instead of 40% for the original. Another difference compared to the original is that this Ltd Ed is a mix of rum aged in ex-bourbon casks (90%) and ex-Madeira casks (10%) while the original only were aged in ex-bourbon casks.
The nose is quite intense, floral and balanced with a little sweetness. I recognize vanilla, fruits, toffee and some hints of coconut.
In mouth and palate it’s still intense but also spicy and woody. I recognize pepper, ginger and a little bitterness.
The finish is rather long and spicy and I also recognize hints of citrus.
Overall a very intense, rich and well balanced rum.

This is simply amazing. Strong, beautiful nose, caramel, vanilla, some dried fruits and molasses.

Strong burn but smooth on the palate and tastes just like
It smells. There’s no disconnect between flavor and smell because there are no additives.

Limited edition, and one well worth having a few backups of.

Aroma is nice full of forest fruits. Taste is sweet (but no added sugar) with long and complex aftertaste. Very good rum.

The color is dark, probably imparted by the Madeira casks. The nose hits you with coconut, plums, brown sugar, subtle overly ripe bananas, sweet tobacco and leather. Given a little time, it's extremely inviting. Apart from the Madeira ageing, this is also a slightly beefed up version of the original 12 year, weighing in at 46% vol. The taste is very full and devolps quickly with dark notes of leather, tobacco, roasted coconut, and slightly spicy pepper. There's an underlying and rounded sweetness underpinning the power perfectly. This is bloody good and pure old barbadian rum. Love it.

I was finally able to get a bottle of this recently while in England since it’s impossible to find in the States and I’m happy to report it’s as great as I imagined. Each time I try it I pick up something new in the flavor profile. I really wished I bought more than one bottle!

I had this side by side with the Real McCoy 12-Year and I think they're both very similar and very close. I slightly prefer the regular Real McCoy 12-Year.

I find that stronger rums are better if they're very highly rated to me, and this one is right on the borderline where the regular version is still just barely better to me.

Smells and tastes of oak, bourbon, caramel, and spice. Smooth for 46%abv. Almost a tie with regular 12-Year, though again I slightly prefer that one.
