Actually, this 18 year old Flor de Cana is a bit harsher than it's 7 year old younger brother. Why pay a little more than double? Just to get a pretty bottle?

Update one month later: I have tried like hell to like this as a sipping rum, but even letting it breathe in the snifter or the bottle does little to improve the flavors other than to remove the alcohol burn. Save your money and get the best from the Central American Caribbean with Flor De Cana 7.

Update March 9, 2018: Adding ice cubes does nothing to improve this horrible rum. Don't be fooled by the otherwise high ratings. This rum is really crap! Sorry, but I always tell it like it is! I have just lowered my rating from a 6 to a 4. Flor de Cana needs to quit while they are ahead at 7 Anos. Only one other premium rum showed an epic fail for me, which was Mount Gay XO that tumbled from a rating of 8 to a 3.

Update November 10, 2021: Because of my bad experience with this rum, I have held off in buying their 25 Year rum for $145 until today. I also bought two other premium rums in the $100 to $150 US price range to try and find something better than my top ranked rum of Foursquare ECS Shibboleth. I was not expecting any higher rating than a 7 for the FDC 25 Year. However, to my surprise, it scored a perfect 10 and is now my all time top ranked rum that is also fairly easily replaced. I was once told my a salesman that the 18 year and 25 year are two totally different rums, but I had ignored him thinking that it was just a sales pitch. How wrong I was!

if you find the liter bottle, price is really good for this one, drier rum, i sense vanilla, caramel,
oak, it s like some 6 years ol cognac (napoleon class).
again flor de caña doing things right !

Great sipping rum at a decent price. We were pleasantly surprised at the amount of smoothness and flavor for the price! =D One that we keep on the bar all the time now!!

Flor de Cana is one of my favourite Rum producers on the planet, with their sustainability, fair-trade, and excellent quality, they're hard to beat. For me, their 18yo is there most accessible and delicious products. Delicate on the nose, with hints of oak, vanilla, and warming spices, but strong and hot on the pallet (in a good way) with no artificial sweetness or lingering bitter taste, and smooth on the finish. Of all of their premium rums, this is by far my go to.

I tried this after having tried the 12 year and to be honest i prefer the 12 year over this. It's still a decent rum, but where the 12 year delivers a pleasant sweetness and taste, this seemed a bit bland. I was expecting more of an evolution in terms of taste and did not find it here.

I throughly enjoyed this Rum. The aroma was pleasing and it was smooth.

This is a smooth and sweet sipping rum, which is a great stage-two (switching from mixed drinks to straight/sipping) rum for my personal tastes.

Nice enough natural sweetness without the added sugar hints of honey butterscotch but for the price I personally would prefer other rums

Centenario gold is tasty light gold rum. Not too sweet. Taste of chocolate, nuts, vanilla.

A somewhat of a subdued nose with aroma's of caramel and toast.
Exceptional soft mouthfeel with aroma's of caramel, toast, vanilla and some wood expressions.
Long finish end perfectly balanced.
