The bottle is no longer the same but the rum still at its excellent
A complex dry flavors and a very interesting length.
A true 18 years of age , no solera and it shows, highly recommended.

Nose: Caramel and oak. Harsh for a 40%
Palate: Oak, caramel
Finish: Same thing, and somewhat fiery tail

Overall it tastes good, but isn’t nearly as complex as it should be for its price point and age. It is an old, boring rum, though I suppose it is good at being old and boring.

Sampled at the Laka Lono Rum Club tasting on 8/29/18. A milder, sweeter version of the 12 year. A bit peppery, but the finish is not nice- harsh in fact. Stick with the better 12 year.

Good sipping rum. Not too sweet, reasonably smooth.

Not sure why the 7yr is sooo good but the older ones just have too much alcohol burn.

This rum isn't too bad at all.

Oak, tobacco and lighter elements of caramel and vanilla all come to mind. Strong fumes off the glass, this stuff will put hairs on your chest just like the 25 year old.

Not too bad although for the price I reckon its better going for something different. 7 out of 10 range seems fair.

Whilst being more pricey I didn’t find it significantly better than Gran Reserva or other Flor bottles. Still, a solid choice for a drink

Interesting, first poured out and had a lovely grapefruit scent. Left to stand for a short time and the aroma changed to a spirit lacking direction.
Sip is not strong in the mouth and does not burn in the throat. Flavour does not last and a bit weak.

Hell and the Devil! This be an outstandin' sipper - and that be comin' from havin' the 12-year at some point! On the nose, she be nowhere near as harsh as her 12 year-old sister, but what you do smell is CLEAN... pure and clean with oak, caramel, brown sugar, a bit of spice, and a hint of the tropics on a beautiful day. Sweet, but not too much. Enough to be invitin'! Goin' down the hatch, she be SMOOTH with a tiniest of burn, but not nothin' another shot couldn't fix. She be the perfect balance of sweet and dry with oak comin' thru, some caramel, and a bit of spice. If you be one of those sweet-toothed biscuit-eatin' land lubbers, this may not be the rum for you! But for us grown-up pirates, this be exactly the type of action you'd be expectin' from an 18 year-old. Hide this one from the crew, lads. She be a keeper! arrgh!

I would not have much to complain about if this was sold as an 8-year-old rum, maybe 10. But the number 18 has absolutely nothing to do with the contents of the bottle. The taste is fine but they should stop lying about the age of the rum. Omitting the word "years" from the bottle does not make it any better.
