Small detour in Martinique with this white rum of La Mauny. This distillery presents two white rum of 45 ° (Wouj and Ter Rouj) in homage to the color of the earth of this part of the island of Martinique. The difference between the two is mainly due to fermentation. Here are the notes for this version: Wouj :
The nose is vegetal with fresh sugar cane but not so much than Ter Rouj. The exotic fruits are also present but without too much power. This rum does not seem very harmonious like the other. On the plate, the spices are very present and the alcohol explodes in the mouth. Quite bizarre indeed. Final short, not very interesting. Will suit very well for cocktails.
Very strong rhum from La Mauny for mixing or punches. Broad fruity body, really good in nose. Much better than the standard La Mauny blanc. Made from the “red” sugarcane type according to the distillery. Strong seven, lurking just below 8. Very good stuff! Ace in your bar cabinet
Visited the La Mauny distillery while vacationing in Martinique. One of the best distillery tours on this island complemented with a full open tasting bar. La Mauny Wouj' was priced at EUR 11 per bottle at the distillery. Pretty decent bottle and label design. Traditional very dry Rhum Agricole flavors complemented with plenty of grass, floral notes and oak to your nose and palate. Strong burn at the end. Rhum Agricole lovers can add 2 points to the score.
