Christmas Break spent at Cayman Islands tasting Rum. Royal Jamaican 10y has a decent bottle and label design. Golden color. Plenty of traditional Jamaican funk and glue to the nose and palate when neat sipped. Harsh ending. Nasty even when mixed.
Not sure the 10 year is still in production. Tasted the 12 year side by side with Monymusk and Appleton Rare with four other people. This was the clear runner up. Very light, but still tasty.
Bought this in Jamaica (US $39 duty free) at the airport in November 2017 after tastings about a dozen other Jamaican rums. This stood out as the smoothest that had a full bodied flavor. (Others that were equally smooth had less flavor and others with equal flavor were not as smooth). A fine rum to drink straight up.
Really nice and smooth product of Jamaica, not quite as smooth as Appleton 12 year but really nice nonetheless. Complex taste, some chocolate and spice present.
