This is a great light rum for sipping with a sweetness to it.
Plus que bon - crémeux , passe très bien
Un des bons rhum que j’ai bu
Très surprenant en bouche
Got this on sale at total wine, it’s sweet but not overly so and goes down smooth. It’s not a complex flavor and doesn’t linger, but also doesn’t burn either. It’s a light flavor and easy to drink.
Very smooth and sweet. Easy to drink but lacks complexity. Still this is good value for the price. The bottle looks awesome.
Bravo !
I admit to being partially biased to sweet Rums, and this is one. But only just. Maybe butterscotch or carmel. Yes, oak but so mellow. And so smooth, aged in French cognac casks. Warm finish that maybe does not last quite long enough. Love the thick bottomed bottle, hate the lable. This Rum tied for me with another of my favorites, Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva. Not that they are the same but both are my go-to for a quiet sip, ice or not, both are my best affordables so far.
Barcelo Imperial and El Pasador de Oro XO.
They are approximately the same price.
After quick introduction of both we had preferred Barcelo.
El Pasador is a bit weird on the nose and does not feel XO enough. Barcelo, indeed, is more solid, more man's stuff, classic dominican style.
At the end of the night 75% of Barcelo (score 8) and 20% of EP (score 7) are gone.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Guatemalan Rum with a rich copper/bronze colour in the glass, very appealing. Thick , tasty. The nose above the glass bring oak spice, dark tobacco, and rich baking spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and vanilla). There are hints of licorice and raisins in the air as well as chocolate.
As the glass breathes, some fruity oranges. The empty glass is full the lingering smells of rich oak and baking spices, dark bittersweet chocolate and broken walnuts.
The rum features a light caramel sweetness which runs through the sipping experience. The mouthfeel is creamy with fine oak spice unraveling from the sweetness and heating my palate. Orange marmalade, caramel toffee, oak and baking spices (vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg) are all melded together into a very nice rum which is easy to sip and tasty.
El Pasador de Oro XO is an excellent sipping rum.
