Acheté 10€ directement à Maurice, ce rhum de 7 ans est plutôt une bonne surprise. L'attaque en bouche est un peu forte en alcool, mais ca tient la route dans l'ensemble, surtout à ce niveau de prix.

interesting to try . . . sharper taste . . . less pronounced scent .

Light gold colour
Quite a restrained nose with hints of coconut and pralines
Dry with a nice kick of alcohol. Lightly oaked so the fruit shines through. Not hugely powerful but well balanced, and the dryness suits my taste.
Got a hint of a rough edge and a bit of dirtiness to it, but I find that appealing.
There is a nice warming finish.
A nice rum but those who like a Zacapa might struggle.
Edit...the more I have this, the less appealing I find it so have marked it down to a 6, now a 5! I can't see myself buying this one again.

Pepper woody rum from Mauritius 5 out of 10
Posted almost 3 years ago by Joola69 from United States with 2661 ratings
Produced in Mauritius, Flamboyant Vieux Rum is a blended expression that has been aged in oak casks for 7 years in ex-bourbon barrels before being bottled. The rum gets its name from the tree on the label - the flamboyant tree - which has brilliantly vibrant crimson flowers that are Mauritius' national flower. Nice bottle design and high-end label. Very dry rum, typical of Rhum Agricole methods. Not an offputting taste, but smell is very strong. Not the typical harsh burn of Rhum Agricole, but burn is there for sure.
