Another version of the XV series, I really like this one, same sweetness as the Tawny version, mouth filling loads of taste - who stays a long time, just a bit more dry on the end than the Tawny, and a lot drier than the Xoloroso version.
One of the best rums i've ever tasted. Drink at room temperature slowly
Ron Abuelo XV Cognac Cask Bottling Note
An interesting expression from Panamanian Rum range Ron Abuelo - a well-aged expression which has been given a finishing period in casks that previously contained Napoleon Cognac!
Ought to be a fascinating tipple...
caramel, chocolate, apple, vanilla, berries, cognac cask....
Awesome rum, sweet, aromatic, rich flavor,
one of my favorites.
First cognas tones you can find in aroma. Taste is complex with nice hint of Naplleon, not covering the basic Abuelo rum character. Long aftertaste.
Uno de los mejores rones del mundo! Añejado a punto.
It's been finished of in cognac barrels and you can tell. For me this is a golden shot from abuelo to put their rum in this price range because before the distance between 12y and centuria was huge. I was fortunate enough to try this rum on a festival. From the first snif and sip this rum puts a big smile on my face. It's complex, still smooth, nice burn and colour and it just taste f....... good. One of the best of the day, will buy one in the near future!
Truly fantastic rum..this one is one of the best i have tasted so far
Sehr ausgewogen, komplexe Aromen. Vanille, nicht zu süß.
Bought it at 70 euro and i love it. I am not typically one whom tastes many different flavours like bananae chocolate, melted yar and what not. I just luke a rum of not.
However this one has a strong almond scent and a littlebit taste as well. Initial very smooth, not to sweet and the 2nd phase of the taste is quite strong. The aftertaste is a bit bitter or cognac, but i do love a long lingerings aftertaste. A rum i use on special occasions.
Fantastic spirit, it takes craftsmanship, knowledge and years of experience to produce such a fine rum. Not sweet, over the dryer side but incredibly smooth a very pleasant to drink, the cognac cask finish is what makes it stand out from the rest of the other abuelos. A must have in your rum collection.
Nice rich flavor. Carmel bias on vanilla with a slight spicy note.
Enjoyed a glass of Ron Abuelo XV Napoleon Cognac Cask edition while vacationing in Amsterdam. I'm surprised Ron Abuelo team did not choose a slightly different bottle design from their regular rums. At least the label design is a bit updated from the usual. Color is deep brown. You get a strong banana flavor to both nose and palate. It is very close to the Plantation 20th Anniversary rum both in nose and palate tests. Hardly any burn due to large sugar contents. My ranking for Special Edition Abuelo Rums is Napoleon (8), Tawny (7), Oloroso (5).
Similar to 12 Year Abuelo, this rum punches above its (age) class. Delicious flavors of banana, caramel, and flowers hit you first. Then the flavor evolves after a couple of seconds, leaving you with an aftertaste of Cognac and berries. Another home run by Abuelo.
Cognac and oak are very present with some fruits notes like peach. Very sweet in mouth with floral aroma on final. Short aftertaste. A good rum to discovery special finish. Plantation will always be my favorite for this kind of work but a good job from Abuelo.
This is a very good rum which I rate an 8 just like the Sherry finish for the quality. My preference goes out to the sherry finish.
Not the easiest one to drink but ohh my this one is good!
A dry and well balanced strong taste, the cognac casks finish it!
Last one of the finish collection I have tasted.
In glass, it looks sugary and leave streaks but once you taste it, it is more dry ( not too much ) as expected on the noze specially if you have tasted the Olorosso and/or the Tawny Finish before.
Again, like the 2 other ones from the collection, the Abuelo Napoleon is fruity and the kind of finish is easy to find. The aftertaste is quite short but well .. nothing is perferct , right ?
Good job from Abuelo.
Fantastic and complex. So close to a 9 but just lacking a minuscule amount of depth and finesse on the finish. Same as the port finish: so close to being great (but just edges it). Decent value, grab a bottle.
