Last one of the finish collection I have tasted.
In glass, it looks sugary and leave streaks but once you taste it, it is more dry ( not too much ) as expected on the noze specially if you have tasted the Olorosso and/or the Tawny Finish before.
Again, like the 2 other ones from the collection, the Abuelo Napoleon is fruity and the kind of finish is easy to find. The aftertaste is quite short but well .. nothing is perferct , right ?
Good job from Abuelo.

This is my least favorite of the Abuelo XV's. My favorite is the Tawny, then the Oloroso, then this. But it's good, and to me it beats the Abuelo 12, though none of the Abuelo XV's match the Abuelo Centuria, imho.

Smells and tastes of cognac, spice, leather, oak, and cacao.

Again, a pretty good rum, but if you only try one Abuelo XV, I recommend their Tawny.

Cognac and oak are very present with some fruits notes like peach. Very sweet in mouth with floral aroma on final. Short aftertaste. A good rum to discovery special finish. Plantation will always be my favorite for this kind of work but a good job from Abuelo.

Ron Abuelo XV Cognac Cask Bottling Note
An interesting expression from Panamanian Rum range Ron Abuelo - a well-aged expression which has been given a finishing period in casks that previously contained Napoleon Cognac!
Ought to be a fascinating tipple...
-
Taste of:
caramel, chocolate, apple, vanilla, berries, cognac cask....
-
Awesome rum, sweet, aromatic, rich flavor,
one of my favorites.

Enjoyed a glass of Ron Abuelo XV Napoleon Cognac Cask edition while vacationing in Amsterdam. I'm surprised Ron Abuelo team did not choose a slightly different bottle design from their regular rums. At least the label design is a bit updated from the usual. Color is deep brown. You get a strong banana flavor to both nose and palate. It is very close to the Plantation 20th Anniversary rum both in nose and palate tests. Hardly any burn due to large sugar contents. My ranking for Special Edition Abuelo Rums is Napoleon (8), Tawny (7), Oloroso (5).

There are two reasons I was reluctant to try this one. First I am not a big fan of cask-flavouring as too often the styles of spirit are too different and the result ends in a bit of both but never as good as they are apart. Especially rum and cognac don't go well together (Plantation...) in my book. Secondly it is sweetened and I prefer my rums dry; in a way sweetening cask-flavoured rums is a confession that it doesn't really work I think.

On the nose the cognac is omnipresent; hard oak and grape are just as much there as the vanilla and tropical fruits and more present than other typical rum flavours. On the palate it isn't as bad as I feared when the fruit gets stronger and a leathery note comes through; it smells more like cognac but tastes more like rum. A bitter coffee appears too but all in all it lacks a bit of complexity for a 15yo. It is not terribly sweet but I think that is because of all the tannines from the oak suppress the sugar. Bitter and rather simple aftertaste of sweet oak.

I think the quality of the rum (before putting it into cognac casks and sugaring it) is really nice and deserves better but to each his own.

This rhum has a very attractive nose and a great cognac taste.
Maybe in the same style as the Plantation XO 20th anniversary but moe straight to the cognac point.
Very warm kiss on the whole. A good daily pleasure

Nose: old wood, rather rough, some moss
Palate: wooden and some chili. Somehow sweet and dry at the same time...

Special 15-year editions finished in sherry oloroso barrels, napoleon cognac and port tawny took us on a wonderful journey around the world. Unlike many whiskey editions, here the finish had a strong impact on the character of the drink and you could have fun catching nuances.

Pozycja obowiązkowa dla wielbicieli brandy. Dwa pozostałe z kolekcji są zdecydowanie słodsze.

Altid en fornøjelse at kikke ind til Rombo. Man kommer altid derfra med god rom

This is probably my least favourite of the three Abuelo XV expressions. That's not to say it's bad, far from it. I'd happily take it any time. But given the choice, I think I'd rather have one of the others. Maybe because it's the least sweet one. I got cognac on the nose, and the flavour is still great. Recommended.

The box looks solid and gloomy. “Nobleness”, a barrel, heather, vanilla, a confectionery aroma spreads from a glass and alcohol breaks through. The taste is multi-layered: first sweet, then burning and bitterness, again sweetness, oilyness, moderate astringency and again burning makes you swallow faster. Also apricot and sourness are felt. This rum is appropriate to dilute slightly with water and the palette of impressions will become even greater. Long aftertaste. Citrus fruits on the table will be very handy, kumquat is perfect. Inebriation brings a minor mood. But in the morning you will not feel the previous load.

Ron Abuelo is a brand that many people have divided opinions towards. I have never tried one of them before, but I wanted to give one of the cask finishes a go.

Nose: Ripe fruit, raisins and cocoa with a bit of oak peaking through
Taste: Oak, ripe fruit, caramel, vanilla, peppercorn and a long and somewhat suprising dry finish with cognac notes
Overall: I am always somewhat reluctant to taste these "cask finishes" that have become more and more popular, because they seldom do anything to impact the taste. With that said you really get a cognac feel in this rum, which helps the complexity quite a lot. I was affraid that this rum would be to sweet, but that was certainly not the case. A great, but a bit to expensive, rum.

Taste 8.0/10. This is sweater than 12, older and better taste. Flavour of tropical fruits little oak and a very mild cognac aftertaste, smooth and really nice but it needs more matureness to be great.

(24. December 2019 i 1423)

Sweet coffee nose, chocolatey after taste that goes for ages.

Nice light mahogany in the glass.
In the nose chocolate with spices and lovage, toasted wood with caramel coated with moss and pieces of candied fruit garnished.
On the palate wonderfully mouth filling and warm. Sweet notes of caramel and dark chocolate are complemented by tropical fruits, red berries and spices, all crowned by an elegant cognac finish.
Long and sweet finish, caramel, red fruit and berries with elegant wood notes.
A thoroughly delicious rum, not too sweet. For connoisseurs and discoverers.

I think this rum is a nice balance of dry and sweet with the cognac not so heavy that it overwhelms everything else. It's hard to tell if additives have been added to this or not (I'm hoping not) but more than likely some have but even if they have it's not a sugar bomb so that's something. All in all I would drink this one again.

Beginnt sofort mit einem Überwältigenden Bouqet voller reifer Beerenaromen mit sanften Holznuancen.
Bleibt dann beim Trinken auf der fruchtigen Seite, leicht Süss mit etwas nussigem im Abgang.

I really like clasic 12y abuelo so I was curious about this one. I have to say I expect more but dont take me wrong this is a very good rum. There is just to much cognac aroma to my taste. Rum is very smooth and you can feel a lot of fruit in taste and smell.
