When I first purchased this rum my expectations were not high. I don't know why but I imagined the run down harbor I had once visited years ago after sailboat racing. I know from articles that it is a much redone place, but the impressions lingered. I was happily wrong.

Bottle: A fantastic old looking green bottle with a label to say that this is a rum from an old and decaying place. It looks great on the shelf. The unassuming print matches the flavor inside.
Color: A light brown.
Bottle Aroma: Rum! With hints of vanilla and caramel, even a touch of grassiness you have to look for.
Glass Aroma: Unfortunately this rum fades away in the glass. Again my not using cognac glasses has an impact here but I don't feel that rum should be treated like cognac because it is so much more.
Taste: Rum, first and foremost with heat that somehow hits, dissipates as your tongue coats with oils, then comes back as those oils go away, the heat following to the throat. This is a surprising rum in that it is light but complex, there are many flavors hiding inside.

I'm betting this rum is produced with ease and not quite the effort of other rums of this quality. Truth in advertising is rarely valued but it is what you get with EH5. It says it is a light, flavorful rum and that it is. And best of all, the cost is right. I'd mix or drink straight, knowing that others would enjoy the flavor. I am betting that this is a hangover prone spirit, drink in moderation.

An honest & robust, but not harsh rum, although with no special character or something really remarkable about it (but, hey, we are talking about a 5-years old rum, right!?). Spicyness & oakiness in right measure give this rum a warm aftertaste, and its price is a definite plus! A nice surprise!

The nose is oaky and fruity with notes of gentle stone fruits and spice. The palate is full of orchard fruit notes, a little tropical fruit and winter spice, notes of smoke and tropical tiki cocktails. The finish is sweet and spiced.

A very good rum with hints of molasses and some tannins from the oak. Ok on its own but better in tiki drinks.

I really enjoy this rum. It is very approachable and an easy drinker. On the nose I find vanilla, caramel, molasses, coconut. The taste is actually a little less complex; molasses, oak, spice and ripe banana. All good things - nothing to complain about.
It sells for about $30 here. Excellent value!

I tried this the other day. Was suprised how nice it tasted & how little it cost.
It's got a hint of vanilla and toffee/caramel. Little oak/sherry or walnut in there as well. Very good for it's price. Enjoyable for sure.

Not horrible but nothing to write home about. Decent with Coke.

Not quite as smooth as it's older brother, but for a 5yr old it's a lot smoother than some other older rums.
Great nose, very slight burn that fades quite quickly, leaving a lingering flavour mix..
For the price it's excellent.
Enjoy, graham.

Sampled this rum at Cardiff Rum Festival one of the stall holders had this bottle hidden as his special reserve and managed to get a sip. Decent sipper from what I can remember must sample some older expressions.

A friend of mine's favorite wjich jas found its way into my cabinet. I often go to it when having a few rum and colas while watching the game.
