Reduced DDL with 46%, could be a PM.

Nose: Bright and sweet smell, a little bit sharp. Vanilla, honey sweetness, some Bourbon wood, paper, some grasy notes, herbs. Not special in the nose, also not complex.

Taste: Bright and a little bit sweet start with vanilla and honey sweetness. Then I get some grasy notes, herbs and wood chips. The sharpness increases, I get some paper or the Bourbon wood now. The rum is quite sharp, it tingels in the mouth with some tannins.
The finish is sharp, with wood chips, vanilla and some grasy notes.
Aftertaste: wood chips, bourbon wood, vanilla

Not a bad PM, but a little bit boring at 46%.

Sweetness: 2.5/5
Fruits: 1/5
Spice: 4/5
Complexity: 2/5
Value: 2/5

Kraftig rom fra Guyana. Jeg syntes ikke den har de typiske træk fra Guyana.

I looked forward to tasting this bottle, it was quite expensive too. The label informs me that I have the privilege to own one of three hundred bottles, which means it's quite rare.

However, I found little satisfaction inside the bottle. The color is darkish yellow, the "honest" color from honest aging, which means no caramel, and that's good. The nose is pleasant enough, soft, fragrant, almost feminine. The taste... the taste is okay, I guess, slightly sweet, a bit tart, but the finish is woefully lacking - quick "good bye, we must do it again some time" and poof - it's gone. No lingering aftertaste, little complexity, no adventurous development I am accustomed to from the pot still distillates.

Hmmm. That must be it, I did not like Admiral Rodney from St. Lucia either, also a column still product, and for the same reason - thin, watery body, precious little "oomf", the same post-coital depression.

Well... maybe these rums will grow on me with time. But... to be honest, I doubt it.

This is an 18yo Guyanan rum from the famed (but alas, defunct) Uitvlugt distillery. It seems that anything which came out of Uitvlugt is bound to be at least good, if not always spectacular. This bottling doesn't have much of an aroma, but it offers a nice, warm flavor of wood and spice and black currants, all of which carry over to the finish. A very good rum, to be sure, but the price (US $90) is hard to justify. Made in Guyana, South America and bottled in Scotland.
