Jamaica | Aged

Distilled using small-batch copper pot stills uniquely designed for Appleton Estate, this rum is a blend of several rums aged 21 years in American oak barrels. Once blended, the rum is re-casked for two years to marry the flavors.

Cel mai bun Appleton dintre cele băute până acum. Vechimea își spune cuvântul foarte clar în acest rom deosebit.

I'm fairly new to premium rum sippers, having recently in the last few years moved from Single Malts to the sweet stuff but its without a doubt that the 21 Year Old is easily one of the best expressions I've drunk.

Joy Spencer over at Appletons is incredible and my search for quality sippers recently hit a high point with the Appletons Estate Joy 25 Year Anniversary expression (I rate it as the best rum on points I have ever had in my life) before I finally sat down to the 21 year. So the bar was already set pretty high.

That being said, I was not disappointed and it's easily a 9 out of 10 rum. Something you wouldn't buy too often due to the price point (starting to get pricey compared to other alternatives out there) but something you would want to bust out with friends and family for the holidays or on very special occasions.

The nose is smooth and lush, the kinda thing you wanna bury your nose in with sweet molasses, a hint of caramelised banana, sweet smokey tabacco, a hint of vanilla, oak and leather. It packs serious punch with a dark hue but it doesn't have the offensive whiff on the nose that some other rums have.

The taste is beautiful. It's viscous and just a touch oily coating your mouth and making you want more and more. With the delicious smells above included in the taste range it also tastes ever so slightly of chocolate and the mouthfeel you get in the aftertaste will leave you warm and lasting but not with the burn that some other rums will leave you with.

You will want to sink this over and over again. Would probably go pretty well with a cigar.

I honestly think this bottle is a solid 9 out of 10 at least (maybe 9.1/9.2). Worth a try at least once if your into sippers.

Mooie balans maar iets te scherp voor mij. Is natuurlijk een kwestie van smaak.

Ahh, Appleton 21......the first time I spent over $100 on a bottle of rum. This was and always will be stocked on my shelf. Always has the distinctive orange peel flavor, but just delicious! I shared a bottle with the locals in Jamaica and they were overly appreciative!

There is a delicious oak taste with a bit of Smokey flavor. It’s just the right amount of sweetness and dry. Definitely a wonderful sipping rum. I enjoy the 12, but the 21 is on another level. I have had a few different rums in this price range and this one is worth it. The bottle, real cork, seal, and certification make this a great addition to my rum collection.

Here’s a rum that even a cocktail fiend such as myself wouldn’t waste mixing with anything.

The nose is spicy and I’m picking up caramel. Smells delicious.

Tastes fantastic. Warm, but no alcohol burn. Very rich flavor, picking up quite a bit of oak. Subtle sweetness as well. Exceptionally smooth.

This is a sipping rum and a top-notch effort from Appleton distillery.

Still tasting (the second bottle ;) ) but for the price you can get it (almost 85€ instead of the original 120) it is absolutly a top rhum for me.

An excellent tasting rum that has hints of cocoa, nuts and oak. Well worth it and highly recommended!

Skvělý suchý rum. Ve vůni cítím pomeranče a nádech sladkosti a dubového dřeva, chuť je jemná a suchá a závěr je dlouhý a překvapivě silný na tu voltáž, kterou má. Cítím v něm zejména kakao a ořechy a na patře i sladkost. Určitě se k němu ještě vrátím.
