Distilled using small-batch copper pot stills uniquely designed for Appleton Estate, this rum is a blend of several rums aged 21 years in American oak barrels. Once blended, the rum is re-casked for two years to marry the flavors.
Appleton Estate 21-year rum is produced in Jamaica on one of the countryโs oldest and most renowned sugar estates. Each bottle is individually numbered and comes with a signed aging certificate by master blender Joy Spence.

First off, this is good aged rum. Nice notes of caramel, vanilla, molasses, oak, raisins, ginger, and plum. A little funk. Very well put together. Give this to a whisky drinker who says they don't like rum. Gateway rum.
That said, in my opinion, this is hurt by it being bottled at just 43%; the finish is short to medium. For the price (around $150), I would want this at a higher ABV (ideally cask strength) and I bet it would be terrific and a fair value.
This is a quality spirit, but I ding it for the proof and price.
Rum, ktery je velmi elegantni, hluboky a ma velmi prijemnou a dlouhou dochuลฅ.
Smooth and enjoyable neat.
A very elegant and smooth rum. Mostly dry but feels a bit sweeter than it actually is.
Vanilla, oak, floral aromas, orange peel, coffee.
A long lasting dry finish.
Was my favourite for quite a while.
Nice to sip, dryish and not sweet.
Biggest criticism is that once you start its hard to stop.
Super smooth. More subtle taste than the other less expensive Appletons. Worth the price.
This 43% alc. drink is very dry. All that I could taste for the first half a minute was its woody aroma: very strong, even overwhelming. Aftertaste is long and intense: oak, some fruits. This strong drink is obviously nice, the whole question is if itโs worth the price. Unfortunately everyone needs to answer that for themselves only after they pay it lol
This is one of the best rums in the world. Simply a masterpiece. A deliciously sweet rum (no sugar added), with flavours of vanilla and chocolate, together with some banana (especially in the aftertaste). A lot of oak in both nose and mouth, but never excessive since everything is perfectly balanced. The aftertaste is sweet and โfunkyโ, slightly warm. The bottle is numbered and comes with a certificate of ageing. Highly recommended to every rum lover. Expensive, but definitely worth it
Nice brown sugar and toffee notes with a nice creamy nuttiness underneath.
"Tropical notes of sweet fruits a little orange zest and some nice notes of tropical fruit. It burns slightly on the finish which is very long and satisfying. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Refined hogo, but at quite a price

I finally got to try a half ounce pour at a very well stocked rum bar this afternoon. The first sip blew me away as being a refined version of their 12 Year Rare Blend. The difference in taste however, does not warrant more than triple the price over the 12 Year. No doubt that this is a fine rum, but I just do not consider it worthy of the cost. I happened to have a glass of Blackwell Reserve sitting next to it at less than one fifth the price of this 21 Year. To my surprise, I liked the Blackwell better than this one. When I have money to burn one day, I will buy my own bottle of this 21 Year.
Update November 29, 2021: After several years of procrastinating, I finally bought my first bottle of this one. My rating stands. There is absolutely no hogo funk. It is extremely smooth like the Flor de Cana 25 Year. It is so smooth that it is almost uneventful. The packaging on this is stellar with a nice blue gift box and certificate of authenticity. It cost only a few more dollars that those bare bones packages of Foursquare ECS bourbon rums, but this one is a much better value. Nothing offensive about this rum! My bottle is number 59741 bottled in 2020.
Update December 18, 2021: After having this bottle for a few weeks, I truly cannot give it my rating of 8. So I compared it side by side to my Appleton 8 Year that I have rated at a 7. Sorry, but the younger one wins! I have no choice except to lower my rating of the 21 Year to a 7 and ranking it below my 8 Year. It is no longer a good purchase, but also not a terrible purchase. I won't be buying this one again, but am glad that I finally bought a full bottle. This only proves that one cannot properly judge a rum from a small pour at a bar or a 2 cl sample.
For the price that I paid for this bottle, it should have never ranked only in my upper 18% of all that I have reviewed. At this price, one should never have to add a few drops of Angostura Bitters and lime juice just to improve the flavor on the rocks and make it drinkable, but that is exactly what happened with the last three quarters of this bottle. I am now ashamed that I finally fell for this one and bought an entire bottle. Never again! I will stick with the better tasting and budget friendly 8 Year Old.
And since I have updated my review as usual, this one no longer appears in my cabinet. As a premium member, my cabinet has gotten screwed up quite a few times and it took me great efforts to fix it. This inspired me to quit being a premium member and now these cabinet problems are only getting worse.. My cabinet order can no longer be trusted, which is one of the reasons why I have chosen to submit no more reviews. My days of partaking in the Discussions are also probably numbered.
