El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum

El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year

YU
had this rum recently

Guyana | Aged | 43% ABV

El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum is crafted from 15 to 25 year old rums that are then blended and married together in bourbon oak casks. Prior to blending the original batches are distilled using 4 unique stills - the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, and the Versailles single wooden pot still.

The bottle of El Dorado Special Reserve 15-year was inspired by the the old hand-blown flasks used by sugar planters on the banks of the Demerara river.

Nice taste of brown sugar, some fruit, a hint of vanilla. A bit sweet (just the way I like it). To me is a little step below the Zacapa Solera 23, but a worthy competitor. Nice for sipping or mixed (although a bit pricey for mixing).

Dieser Rum isr was besonderes. Mir persönlich etwas zu scharf, aber trotzdem bei vielen Gästen sehr beliebt.

I know the 12, the 15 (this one) and the 21 year editions. And i have to say, the 15 years edit is an great sipper...always. For those who like smooth and round rums, you should give the 21 edit a try. But if you prefer a little bit more character the 15 years edit should be your choice.

This El Dorado is the cause for me being interested in rum in the first place. Really enjoyable straight up and definitely one I'd recommend to and serve people new to rum.

I do think it tastes similar to the 12-year version and if you're short on money you might as well try the 12-year instead.

I really like this rum for the simple fact it has the balance, body and complexity I'm after without being overpowered by the sweetness. This and rumbullion (which I'm yet to try) are next on my purchase list. Prefer it to the 12 year. Which is lighter and sweeter

Tobacco, Melasse and Spices all impressions mixed together in a happy blend! This is a very good rum, because of the low price tag this gets an 8 easy!

It's tasty rum but with 9 spoons of added sugar per liter (that's 7 per bottle), I cannot take this stuff seriously. Come on, El Dorado, cut the crap.

Picked up a bottle of El Dorado 12 yr. Old today (15 Bonus Air Miles) at my local NLC store at a price of $34.36 Cdn. I already owned a bottle of El Dorado 15 year old I'd picked up a while back that quite impressed me. I had read a review if the 12 that suggested it was even better than the 15 and given the price difference ($52.43) I thought I'd give it a try. I compared them both neat and on ice also having my wife do a blind tastes test both ways. We both agreed that the 15 was the much smoother. The 12 had a harshness that the 15 lacked. That being said, they are both very nice rums. The 12 had a much stronger nose and was easier to drink as the ice melted in the glass. The 15 was much nicer neat and smooth on the palate. Only wish I had made a comparison to my Kirk and Sweeney and even Captain Morgan Private Stock. Another night another tasting. Full review after that happens.
