El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum

El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year

Guyana | Aged | 43% ABV

El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum is crafted from 15 to 25 year old rums that are then blended and married together in bourbon oak casks. Prior to blending the original batches are distilled using 4 unique stills - the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, and the Versailles single wooden pot still.

The bottle of El Dorado Special Reserve 15-year was inspired by the the old hand-blown flasks used by sugar planters on the banks of the Demerara river.

I came to sipping rum through being a tiki cocktail fan and mixologist. My good friend Mark who was mostly into sipping and made the occasional Mai Tai told me his favorite was El Dorado 12. Well soon enough I discovered it was a Demerara, and used it in my mixes to great success! Demerara and Jamaican are the Yin and Yang of tiki drinks and El Dorado is a dual purpose sipper and mixer. I bought a 5 year El Dorado for mixing and am almost done with the 12 year which I compared tonight to the 15. The 15 is definitely a bit less sweet and has a more cognac type taste which is very smooth and has hints of vanilla, oak and fruit. I usually like rum with a big bourbon style ice cube and feel it brings out flavors a bit more than neat. I would probably stick with the 12 for mixing and neat sipping and reserve the 15 for sipping only.

It was a blow when I first tasted it and because of El Dorado 15 years i entered deeper in the world of rums!Amazing taste! Not so sweet ( I am not a big fan of very sweet rums), and this is why i prefer it against the 21 years version.. Explicit balance in flavor and taste. Please you have to try it!!

One of the best rums, complex, sweet, plesant on the smell, and the taste just upgrades it. Perfect colors.

In my opinion older editions of this rum were more refined and smooth in taste than new ones (new bottle design).

El Dorado 15 y.o. was awarded as the best rum at the International Wine and Spirit Competition for four years in a row. About the reasons why you can see for yourself.

Note: I'm a sipper. My opinion is based on sipping characteristics.

People usually compare it to the 12-year old and I think that's a mistake. They are really different rums and while this *can* be considered an *upgrade*, it *shouldn't*. Both share some characteristics, all right. However undoubtedly this is a more mature product in every way and something with different taste. And it is really easy to have and enjoy both, depending on what you are after in this particular evening.

It is a little bit dissapointing ....it tastes same as 12-Year version, but for the price about 35 EURo, it is perfect rum. Price/quality ratio is high.

Personally I find the 12yr old to be better than the 15yr. Not worth the extra dollars.
