I was blown away by this Gold medal rum that costs only $14.00

I opened this bottle by chance as I was intended to sell it to a friend but he didn't want it at $10...so I thought I would give it a try, not expecting much especially as it was only 37.5%...how wrong could I be.
The rum had a pleasant smell that was distinctively caramel and toffee looking an inviting honey colour in the glass. When I sipped it I did the taste equivalent of a double take, it was not complicated, first off came the caramel, then slowly I could pick out a touch of vanilla and a lingering coffee cream as the alcohol evaporated on my tongue...then back came the caramel and a sweet after taste. The finish was smooth and fairly sustained...I almost felt as if I wanted to eat this rather than drink it, at least that is the effect it had on my palate.
I have read many reviews of good rums by people who have a great deal of experience, but there is nothing complicated or complex about this rum it is a treat. Quite frankly I would rather have this given to me than some rums I have tasted that cost 5 times as much. Outstanding.
