I hesitated to try this one, as I thought it might be overly sweet. I was thankfully wrong. Flavors of cinnamon, molasses, and oak (as well as some spice) come through in a masterful balance. You won’t regret it.

Lovely amber colour with and initial hit of fire and burnt caramel. Slightly sweet smooth at the end, a warmth at the back of the throat and lingering, pleasant finish.

Typical rum flavor is dimmed. Which brings this rum closer to whiskey fans.
Cask taste is intensive, which I love.
The influence of Zinfandel is for my untrained senses undetectable, which makes me a little bit sad, because I’m passionately in love with Zinfandel/Primitivo/Plavac.
Bottle is very simple and pretty, but the plug looks too cheap. Maybe Foursquare should think about some changes in this detail.
Otherwise, I highly recommend this rum.

Good winter sipper. I feel nicely warmed. Plan to have more!

Too much of a bite for my liking. I've only tasted a few rums and this is my least favorite so far.

First i must say, yes, I’m fan of this foursquare exceptional cask series. At the moment I have 5 different bottles from 8.
And I very liked all what I try before from this collection.
So today I opened one of Zinfandel bottles. Before I open it, I was sure about that, I will not be disappointed. But I’m surprised again.

So...
43% bourbon and Zinfandel wood.
11 years.

Nose: very clean, sweet aroma. I got vanilla and maybe honey notes.
Taste: first note! It’s tart and viscous. Different. And after that you got of smooth taste in your mouth: mix of vanilla, caramel, little spice. I’ll like this rich taste. No alcohol burn for sure, and not to sweet. Balanced.
Perfect for single malt.
Enjoy it...
But port cask finish (9y) I liked little bit more at the moment.
Zinfandel 8.5-8.7
Port cask 8.8-9

N- Imagine a white caramel, along with floral perfume and a touch of oak.
P- Strawberries! I kid you not! Strawberries, rounded out by some brown sugar, rye spice and an ever so light vegetal-ness.
F- Cherry and more oak. Vaguely reminiscent of cough syrup.
Very solid rum! Also a rather odd rum. Absolutely worth a try, but perhaps not worth buying a bottle.

Since I absolutely hate rums aged in sherry or madeira casks, and port is a close cousin to both of these, I have held off on trying anything from this distiller who likes to use port casks. This one is aged partially in zinfandel casks, and this varietal happens to be my favorite. I was still hesitant to try this one until I read all of the reviews. At only $52, I deemed it to be worth the gamble. Since this is a dry rum, that was an added bonus.

The aroma is nothing to write home about except for some of the alcohol vapors breathing off. The taste on the tongue is peppery and a thin mouthfeel because of it having no added sugar. The aftertaste has a very faint hint of zinfandel and oak with no after burn. This rum went through a very complex blending process, but it really amazes me how the final product is just pure and simple rum. If the info on it's blending had not been shown, I seriously doubt that anyone could guess all the trouble that went into making this fine rum.

Can a rum be simply delicious? Light amber color, no ETOH aroma, legs galore, quickly dissapating warmth leaves a certain fruity sweetness that is a wonder. Jeeze this is good stuff.
86 proof, undoctored wonderfulness. My first Foursquare and hopefully not my last.

Cena kolem 1000,- by mu slušela více.
