After an escapade with the fantastic El Dorado line, I was doubtful there were rums that could match them (El Dorado) in cost-to-quality. However, I decided to give this Plantation a go because I heard great things about its more expensive counterparts, and am happy that I did!

As far as the taste goes, it's pleasantly light and extremely approachable--much like what Japanese whiskey is to its respective genre. I catch mild hints of lemon, cinnamon and tropical fruits on both the nose and palate. It's very smooth going down. Flavor does dissipate instantly once swallowed, which I find interesting.

Overall, Plantation Grande Reserve is better than the El Dorado 5-Year, and about on par with the 8-Year as the best rum in its price bracket. Great sipper, great mixer, and should appeal to both the experienced and inexperienced rum drinker.

Barbados and rum can be a thing of beauty in its most pure form, but tamper just a bit with it and you can have a mess on your hands. Plantation almost gets into hot water with this one, but saves it in the nick of time.

Nose: Ripe banana, baking spices, orange zest, vanilla and coconut
Taste: Ripe banana, chocolate, coconut, vanilla and almonds
Overall: This is not a special rum, but it can serve a good purpose. It tastes just fint and is not overly sweet or dry. If you have found a liking to the sweeter rums, but want to try something a bit more dry without goint to far, then this might be the rum for you

Plantation umí příjemně překvapit, za malé příjemné pití
- vůně nasládlá, vanika, tropické ovoce, závan broskve
- chuť nasládlá, tropické ovoce, vanilka, závěr jemně štiplavý

It´s fine sweet daily rum. Taste is little thin and short but good. Color is not very dark.

litt sttram og ubestemmelig lukt som ikke minner om Rom, helt ok smak.

Smells wrong. The smell bites like a nail polish remover. Tastes like too many things. Cinnamon, apple, pineapple, and something bitter? I don’t mix, so not sure what to do with this. It also weirdly bites the tongue, not as if it was alcohol, but an old liquid.

Nyanserad, kryddig smak med fatkaraktär, smaker vanilj arrak

If they did not tell me on the label, I would not know this to be a Barbados rum. The sweetening and the cogac casking hides its identity, as usual, and makes it bland and sugary. Yuck.

Very good rum for the price. Smooth, light and tasty, close but not has good as Plantation XO 20th Anniversary.

For the price this is one of the best rums on the market. Not one for the purests. But it really is a lovely rum. Heavy on the malasis but smooth as at the same time. If you just want to go home have a nice glass of rum with a cheep cigar this is the one.

A lot of rum for the price you pay. Plantation is a great rum, nothing fancy but just the right sweetness and smoothness. Buy two bottles while your at it, because it will disappear quicker than you’d expect.
