I was pleasantly surprised by this rum. It had a sweet nose and a sweet taste, toffee in particular. I do have a bit of a soft spot for sweet rums, though. This rum is a good value for the price.

Plantation generally comes with the derivatives, products of the rum cooking, recipe'ing. Dark and pseudo-white leaders are to get acquainted with, fine. This one is about nothing. Probably, about balance you were to be missing, HOPEFULLY. There are shades of tastes, true. Plentiful. Nothing is bad. Sadly, no character. OK, any spicing would be a killer too, have to admit.

I really enjoyed this and would buy again only gets a six as the abv and flavour length lacked a little. A nice drop

Plantation Barbados 5Y považujem za mimoriadne vydarený rum v kategórii 20€. Preto som chcel vyskúšať aj o level nižšie posadený Barbados Grande Reserva, ktorý zrel o čosi kratšie. Podarilo sa mi kúpiť lacnejšiu 0,5 l plastovú ploskačku (viď foto), normálne sa predáva v rovnakej opletanej fľaši ako drahší súrodenec, len s mierne odlišnou etiketou. Farba je dosť svetlá, vôňa menej výrazná, svieža a ovocná, s alkoholovým pozadím. Chuťovo ide o sladší rum, s dominanciou medu, vanilky, karamelu a sladkého šťavnatého ovocia. Koniec je trochu krátky, s čím sa ale vzhľadom k dobe zrenia počíta. Ničím výnimočný, no na bežný deň postačuje, porovnateľný s domácimi rumami typu Heffron a Professore. S drahším bráchom sa ale porovnávať nedá, subjektívny rating silná 6-ka.

Plantation Barbados Grande Reserve idealnie nada się na prezent dla osób, które nigdy nie piły nic lepszego niż ogólnodostępne Bacardi. Ładna butelka, dobra cena (ok. 100 zł), przyjemny smak, idealny aby przenieść się myślami na wyspę Barbados w chłodny, jesienny wieczór. Zdecydowanie polecam go pić na czysto.

Simple but good. No sweetness. Bourbon shades, varnish and wood.

V peknej flasi sa ukryva rum svetlej farby a nevyraznej vone. Chutovo fajn. Vo svojej triede okolo 16€ zatial boduje vysoko.

I didn’t have much expectations for this rum considering the prices I paid. Overal an easy drinking, simple nice tasting rum. Maybe the best price-quality rum you can buy when starting/beginner rum taster.

Plantation Barbados Grande Reserve rum is a perfect everyday rum.
It’s smooth without being overly sweet. It’s very fragrant and pleasant to drink.
We can smell the sweet caramel/butter scotch with light aromas of coffee. It’s not a great rum, it’s not very complex but still great to sip, it’s you can find it for a good price.

After an escapade with the fantastic El Dorado line, I was doubtful there were rums that could match them (El Dorado) in cost-to-quality. However, I decided to give this Plantation a go because I heard great things about its more expensive counterparts, and am happy that I did!
As far as the taste goes, it's pleasantly light and extremely approachable--much like what Japanese whiskey is to its respective genre. I catch mild hints of lemon, cinnamon and tropical fruits on both the nose and palate. It's very smooth going down. Flavor does dissipate instantly once swallowed, which I find interesting.
Overall, Plantation Grande Reserve is better than the El Dorado 5-Year, and about on par with the 8-Year as the best rum in its price bracket. Great sipper, great mixer, and should appeal to both the experienced and inexperienced rum drinker.
