My number one go to aged rum. And for the price, there is little else that compares. Rum is my drink of choice, but I have not yet learned to review and distinguish all the nuances and subtleties. I just know what I like. And I like this one very much. I have tried nearly every El Dorado rum that I have had the opportunity to purchase.

Sweet toffee brown sugar notes.
Not very complex but enjoyable enough.
Where it shines is in cocktails.

It tastes like the 12 year but a bit harsher. I'll still drink it on the rocks. It has the same pleasant taste as the 12 year. Overall it's a nice cheap rum but kind of mid tier.

A flavorful rum with hints of caramel, spice, and oak. Smooth and enjoyable.

Ran out of 12yr and my store was out. I needed a good Demerara Rum and decided on this. Lighter on the nose with a citrusy vanilla combo that transfers to the palate. Has a slight more bite but all in all. Not a bad sipper. Can't wait to mix up some drinks with it.

The 5 yr is a solid go to for mixed drinks, and i love it. The 8 puts the polish on those same drinks, much like Appleton's 8 does for the VX.

An expectedly good offering from the reliable El Dorado. This 8 year offering sits right where you expect in their lineup, and was pretty tasty. It's OK to sip on but I mainly used it as a mixer and it made some pretty decent cocktails.

The eight years in the barrel gives it a nice oaky flavor, without tasting excessively aged. There are nice notes of caramel and vanilla.

Iโ€™m surprised that this 8yr old El Dorado is as nice and tasty of a rum as it is. Slightly less sweet and a bit more alcohol on the throat than the 12yr old which I really enjoy as well.
Very well priced for such a nice sipping rum.

Have tried the 21 year, 15 and 12 and I swear the much cheaper 8 year is just slightly better. Aroma is a bit of coffee, caramel and vanilla. Tried neat and very little burn just soft warmth and even detecting a little Jamaican funk even though this is a rum from Guyana. Aftertaste is not too short and is just a little too sweet and there is just not any bite. It is a soft tasting rum at a really fair price.

Warm and rich aftertaste. Nice wood flavours. More on the sweet side with vanilla and tropical fruits.
