It's pretty good in cocktails, but for sipping I would go for at least the 12 year.
Voor mij een perfecte smaak en juiste afdronk deze puur gedronken ik vond hem lekker
Old rum produced on the banks of the Demerara River by the last distillery in British Guiana, El Dorado 8 years old is made from the mixture of several rums distilled in traditional stills, including one made of wood. The rum was then aged in oak barrels.
Mouth : The caramelized oak marks the entry into the mouth, it is smoky and burnt. The notes of roasting and molasses recall our fond memories. Once you have had this rum in your mouth, you can detect more ripe fruit on the nose.
The finish is quite smooth. Molasses and caramel are still present.
A rum that offers a typical profile of Demerara rums for a really good price.
This is a decent rum, but it's not as smooth as the El Dorado 12 (this is a bit harsher).
Smells and tastes of molasses, honey, spice, tobacco, with a light touch of oak. Pretty good, but if you want a sipping rum, I recommend paying just a bit more for the 12.
Buttery cinnamon vanilla
Suggest lemon and lime wedge served neat
bought this one together with the 12Yo, prefered this one. Cheaper and beter taste
Itโs floral, there are notes of dark chocolate and dried fruits.
"It isnโt rough but it does have quite a spicy burn and finish. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Got this for a good price and was very curious how it compares to the 12 year. This one has a relatively sharp nose, just like its older brother. Somehow I just don't really like the nose on the El Dorados.
Upon tasting the rum I noticed that there is quite a bit of initial sharpness, which makes way for an oaky flavour combined with caramel. It's definitely not as smooth as the 12 year, but it has some nice warmth. There is a moderately long aftertaste, where the oaky flavour has the upper hand.
I think this is a good rum for when you just want a simple glass to relax with after work. A good "daily driver" if you will.
edit: After some contemplation it's more of a mixing rum for me. It makes for a damn fine Cuba Libre, so I use it for that.
