Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
El Dorado 8-year is a medium-bodied premium rum which has been recently added to the El Dorado portfolio. Distilled from fermented molasses, it is a nice option between the heavier 12-year and lighter 5-year counterparts.
After having great success with the El Dorado 12 year, I figured I would try another from the same brand at a lower price point. Although I am new to rum, I can still notice a difference. Not as good as the 12 year, which makes sense since it's cheaper. Glad I tried it, will buy again for sure, but not necessarily a staple for my collection.
I was very pleased to find this bottle at a nice price but it turned out to be below my expectations. Its sweet palate didn't make it for me. It's up to personal tastes I guess, a friend who has not tasted many rums apart from Havana Club likes it very much, about the same or even more than Havana 7 according to him.
Not bad, it is a quality rum. But didnt find anything interesting in it. I always try to reveal the personality of the rum im tasting, trying to understand what was the blenders idea...No impression was made with this one.
are un gust banal, nu iese cu nimic in evidenta. recomand in cocktailuri. totusi are avantajul pretului.
A good dark rum. Had it as a shooter. High in alcohol in the mouth.
Has flavour but harsh. Does well in mixed drinks, does not over power the taste of the other ingredients.
Ok Rom til prisen, men den mangler lidt fylde har en ok eftersmag, til prisen er den ok
Un rom ușor, fără pretenții dar bine echilibrat, suficient de fin pt brandul ce-l reprezintă.
This is another "okay" rum, whiskey, rum, whiskey that has sugar added to it to taste more like rum. I think if El Dorado actually tried to make rum they'd be on to something.
If not for drinks I suggest it to brief at least for 15-20 minutes! I prefer the 12 year old of course to a different price.
À venir prochainement.............................
I don't much care for mixed drinks anymore; but when I do, I either reach for this one or the Appleton reserve. I find this one goes good with pepsi
a very big difference with the 12-year-old but still excellent rum at a great price
Lambs Amber is my usual base mixing rum for rum and soda drinks. Most of my friends who are Cuba Libre drinkers are also Lambs Amber fans. Not being a fan of this drink myself I can't compare how E.D. 8 enhances the drink. I do however like it in a nice rum cocktail. For the price this is certainly a step up from a Lambs or Captain Morgan.
Makes a nice rum and coke. Easy to drink with a sweet caramel flavour. Not really any other flavours that really stand out, but easy to drink. Wouldn't drink this as a sipper, but good mixer.
Maybe it would not be a bad rum, if I had not tested El Dorado 12.
Hints of "Bananas Foster"...bananas, caramel and butterscotch.
A friend that doesn't really have much experience buying "fancy" rum, bought this as a holiday gift. I opened it up one night planning on making drinks with it, as a mixer...however after a little bit of a taste, I went for rocks and was pleasantly surprised.
Velice dobry rum s bajecnym pomerem cena/vykon.
This stuff is delicious in the rocks however it really comes into its own when mixed, huge depth of flavour and another classic from eldorado
A bit too much heat for my liking. Has sweetness but it hides behind the spiciness. This one is much better with an ice cube IMO. In this price range i would go with plantation 5..
If you want a El dorado rum, start with the 12 years old ... I like the arome on this one ... but the taste just isnt that smooth for me ...
