Not sweet, vey pleseant. A lot of oak with gentle bitterness and dark chocolate. Dried apricot in the nose or maybe some plum? The fruit is hidden behind dry brown sugar and the wood. A lot of intense herbal aroma. Also burnt toast and cold cigar ash.
This was not what I was hoping for. Too strong and harsh. Turns out it works awesome as a dark for my Dark and Stormy's. Excellent character and notes in a mixed drink. But when it's done o probably won't buy again.
I love Ron Zacapa rums and this one doesnโt disappoint either. A little more complex flavor than Solera 23, with a nice smokiness to it. Very good sipping run.
This is a Zacapa with a twist, and I like it. The smokey character is probably not for all.
In comparison with Solera 23 is not much different then +50% of its price... I was wondering to taste this rum, but at the end I was very disapointed. Rum is fine, I like this type of rum, but probably high expectations which were not met together with higher price mean I will not buy it again...
Glad it's expensive! One could get real used to drinking this rum!!!! Open with a little ice in the glass. More body than 23. (reverse aging) Higher proof! Nice legs! Very tasty.
This is what Zacapa-heads call great? Holy nothing. No.
One of the best I ever tasted... Ofcourse such things can't be discussed, however, just try and you'll see ๐
Ron Zacapa was my true first love of rum. I donโt know if the rum has changed or if my palate has advanced. Its much different than the solera 23. It makes me think the same rum without added sugar
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Typical Zacapa color. A smokiness tadds depth that the 23 lacks. It's smooth with a kick. A very nice balance overall.
Edit: after polishing off this bottle, rather quickly, I've come to a stronger conclusion.
It's a little smoky, but not Mezcal smoky. It's a treat down the gullet. I found this to be super smooth on the finish but with plenty of bite (ethanol) on the throat. It's an experience from
Start to finish.
Some insist it's better than the regular 23. I would agree. The price reflects that. However, some say it's better than the XO. This is false.
Score is still an 8. Really flat 8. The score is based off their practice and a lack of general uniqueness within the aged rum category.
