Beautiful mahogany with copper reflections in the glass.
Deep and full-bodied in the nose. Fragrances of singeing wood and caramel burnt on a campfire reach the olfactory bulb first, followed by candied fruits that slowly melt on moist moss, liquorice sticks that are sprinkled with cocoa let the water run in the mouth.
On the palate very delicate, elegant and mouth-filling. Aromas have to fight their way through the Solera standard mush, wood aromas drown in the caramel, the caramel is covered with chocolate, the chocolate is stirred with a wooden ladle, vanilla, spices and a bonfire are present as passengers.
In the aftertaste, yes there it happens ! The full smoke aroma comes over enormous but not so whisky style but rather BBQ like. Caramel, candied fruits, some wood and vanilla are also coming over.
Hey Zacapa, well done, nice that you didn't reach so deep into the sugar bowl !
A medium sweet rum that makes fun, beginners delighted and lovers enthusiastic. According to my taste the best Zacapa.

My favorite so far from what i’ve tried of the Zacapa family, super super smooth abit sweet and the smokey taste is what makes the difference from all the others. Highly recomend this one, worth every penny!

Robe foncée. Belle complexité. Un peu plus lourd que le Solera 23. Côté visqueux sur le tabac. Arôme de fumé très présent. On aime l'originalité.

I first spotted this at an airport duty free some years back. Afterwards, I asked a local liquor store to order in a couple bottles for me - and got them for a little bit cheaper (~US$45) even than Zacapa 23. It was a delightful find - the added smokiness and whisky-like character elevated a great sipping rum base even further, and over a few years I went through two bottles of my own, and gifted an additional bottle to family.

Lately I've started looking into buying a new bottle - and right now I can only find it very sporadically, and then at a much higher price point (~US$80). So at the moment I'm not about to re-stock this one unfortunately.

I love the color, the smell and most importantly the taste. Fresh, smooth and smoky with just the right sweetness for my palette.

I only had a small taste of this rum, but it really surprised me. I'm a fan of the Solera 23, but still find it overly sweet. The Edicion Negra is much more balanced, with a glorious hint of smoke and spice that others mentioned. In true Zacapa form it's as smooth as all get-out, is complex, and (don't worry) still certainly leans sweet.

Worth the price? Debatable—but definitely in another league compared to its familiar sibling.

The nose is definitely rum. The colour is dark, red, unusual. Back to the nose... Smokey. That's weird, in a rum. But it still smells like a delicious rum. Maybe not as sweet... Smells like a Zacapa. But with smoke. What's with that?

Then on the tongue. Immediately there's the classic Zacapa taste. Caramel, oak, slight vanilla. Smooth. Then the smoke shows up. So unusual in a rum. Still some bite, but ... it begs to be inhaled. Nose in the glass. I just can't help myself. The aroma, so inviting.
I could sit an inhale the wonderful aroma of this rum all night. Except..
No I can't. I need to keep sipping it.

Such a unique rum. If the opportunity arises, you must taste this. Not the best run I've ever tasted, but it really stands out, definitely worth tracking down.

This rum has a strong smokey taste. I like this rum more than the solera 23.
