Appleton Estate Extra 12-Year

Jamaica | Aged | 43% ABV

Appleton Estate 12-Year Rum is a blend of several rums aged between 12 and 18 years in American oak barrels after being distilled using small-batch copper pot stills.

The rum is produced on the Appleton Estate, which sits in the Nassau Valley in Jamaica. The estate’s origins date back as far as 1655 when the English overthrew the Spanish to rule the island and Frances Dickinson, grandfather of the distillery’s founders, received the land as a reward for his role in the overthrow.

It's classic fruity Jamaica with more spice, wood and long warm aftertaste. Excellent mixer and nice sipper.

I like rich and dark profile of it. Woody tanins brown sugar. It is not sweet. Rum is better on nose than in mouth.

Easy to tell this is a well blended rum but I'm guessing it's aged in bourbon casks and had taken on to many of the bourbon flavour for my personal tastes

A very well balanced genuine 12 year rum , heaps of flavour and very smooth with a good amount of oommph !! This is very good value for money and is a great rum for mixing as well as straight or on the rocks.I also have a bottle of the master blenders legacy but cant bring myself to open it as now quite rare !!

I always like the smell of appleton estate. Its smokey with a hint of vanila and oak cask with some sweetness in it, very unique smell. Honestly if you want a smell thats very similar go cut a 2x4 on a table saw and that is almost the smell of appleton 12. In the glass though it has a very harsh alcohol smell with some cask in it. Drinking it straight is a bad idea, its very harsh up front. Strong tastes of vanilla, oak cask and with some dryness. In diet coke it makes a nice R&C its flavor holds true with some sweetness and bitter aftertaste. Strong kick of oak cask, vanilla and some caramel. Simple rum but very good in d rum and coke, straight not so much however still decent.

Good straight out of the bottle. Sipper through and through. Light up a nice cigar and enjoy a session drink with this stuff.

First had this while on vacation in Canada. For sweetness, it comes in between the dryish Kirk & Sweeney and the sweet Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, both of which I also keep stocked. Smooth, rich, carmelly, rum taste that is wonderful when rolled around the palate on initial sip. IMHO slightly better than Ron Zacapa Solera 23 at about $10 less per bottle in the lovely state of Ohio. It is best when purchased fresh from a more upscale liquor store with clientele willing to keep the stock moving. A perennial favorite in our home.
